Amen to that, and karma
I love everything of what I heard so far, I have to say I was honestly taken aback by Beach side, I wasnt expecting that at all, I love the vibe but I am not sure I actually like the actual song, its the way he sings it, but I'll have to listen to it again, definitely. I am getting a bit tired of 'fans' say they dont like it because they expected another ASH. They will never return to that point, as good as it was, they are moving directions which is great. Now we have to deal with it.
Someone on those pages say it was their 'worst album to date' because it doesnt sound like ASH, even though I understand one cant always like everything, and everybody is entitled to their opinion, I feel that comment is really unfair, for the simple reason that lots of 'fans' seemed to think that about OBTN, and I dont think you can have two 'worst album to date'. Joke aside, to me, music gives me emotions, I need to 'dream' when I hear a song, and as long as KOL manages to give me those emotions, they can go salsa, electro dance, blue grass or even ballroom music, I will always listen to them.

It's interesting that so many comments on here are very similar to those that people were posting after BOTT came out. So CAS cant be all that bad? UsuallyDrunk--karma! And the whole ASH and YAYM deal--ok, it;s time to move on. They will not be putting out another YAYM. Simply because they've been changing direction since BOTT, and that's what's interesting about them--that every album IS different. Because I am pretty sure that if all 5 albums were sounding ASH-y, we'd be sitting here doing a lot of this complaining about "oh, another album that has short songs and sounds like ASH!" We can hate it, we can love it, but at least they are not predictable and keep us talking.

I agree that people need to stop hoping for their first two/three albums. They're different people now, grown up and the like, and they're going to make different music. Period. Musically, this album is very very good. I also really like the lyrics, and for the most part, I love the vocals. But it just feels like something is lacking, and although I don't know much about music production, I think that it may be just that; production. Not KOL. I think these will be really good live tracks, and so far, that seems to be the general concensus for people who have had the chance to hear some of them live. No Money is a really good song, but I feel like the bass is too quiet. If you listen really hard for it, it's fucking awesome. But it should be louder. I shouldn't have to concentrate to hear Jared's awesome skills. Maybe I just need to listen to it louder. I don't like to listen too loud at work because it bothers other people if they can hear my music through my headphones.

I totally agree with the last few posts, and I'm so glad to read comments like that on this thread.
Music has always been a big part of my life but I've never loved a band as much as I love KOL. They have changed the way I feel about music and definitely how I listen to it, and the fact that they are ever changing has probably got a lot to do with that.
As I've said before, I'm going to listen to CAS with an open mind and not compare it to previous albums, there's no point doing that because with a band like KOL, you're just setting yourself up for disappointment.

Any Star Wars fans out there?
The 1970's movies were great right? We love them for their raw, unpolished quality. They are gems. The recent movies were criticized for being too much CGI, too much technology ruined the movies, it lost that rare essence. But if you ask George Lucas he says that the new episodes are made in a way he would have liked to make the old episodes if only the technology existed back then. He sees the new ones as an improvement from the old ones. But many fans disagree. But the creator's vision is being accomplished. YAYM & ASH and even BOTT are those old Star Wars movies and OBTN and CAS are the new ones. The Followills have come out and said they're somewhat embarrassed by their work on the first album, they considered themselves amateurs. But some fans love that RAW, UNINHIBITED quality.
Now, with the last 2 albums, they're comfortable in themselves to try new things and they consider this an IMPROVEMENT. No matter what we, the audience thinks, the artist feels as if they're improving. And we can't argue with that. Because we weren't there behind the scenes in the creative process.
So yes, let's get over the fact that they're not gonna make albums like YAYM and ASH anymore.
CAS is beautiful as it is.

i dont want them to make a repeat of YAYM and ASH i just want that quality back... i wanna be able to listen from start to finsih and love every single song. All three of the first albums sounded totally different. they're very distinguishable from each other yet they're all three amazing from start to finish. where did that energy go? jared's bass lines are the saving grace of this album but even that is lazy and gets repeated in a couple of songs. (dont you think the intro to no money sounds a liiiiitttle copied from another intro on the album?)

I think compare this album with the above is not good, all people grow and evolve, and with them their art,I think KOL have do the album they wanted, what they feel at this time, I guess that reflects where are they now. mine what the album was love at first hearing love the end, the face, no money, mi amigo pyro is amazing song and love so much pickup truck back down south is very slowly for me , i prefer in live sorry my shortcomings to explainin english my feelings towards album.

I like the album so far. definately will grow on me the way BoTT did. but other than No Money and Pony up to an extent, there arent really any uptempo, fast songs which is in the same vein as OBTN. Also Caleb seems to be trying to sing almost too much (aka holding out notes) and thus making his vocals slower which seems to make the songs even slower than they actually are. This is why i think some people are calling it lazy. Don't know if that made any sense at all. Hopefully like Matt said, in the Uncut interview i believe, that they do another album of fast hard rocking songs again.

it's definitely a grower. i haven't listened to anything else since i downloaded it and i'm certainly beginning to really enjoy it. i know i was one of those people hoping for music from the yaym and ash eras, but i think i can be happy with this. i still have reservations about it, but i think as a whole it's got something. there's something about it that's completely addicting and it really grows on you.

(dont you think the intro to no money sounds a liiiiitttle copied from another intro on the album?) Maybe 'The Immortals', Carrie? I noticed it too; but still, both of them are amazing to me (specially No Money). It's like not enjoying all their other songs because for me none of them is as good as Cold Desert; doesn't make sense. 'Mary' sounds very boring to me, but honestly, I tend to skip 'Molly's Chambers' too, so... They will never do ASH or YAYM again. They are older, more mature and Caleb is sadder haha. But CAS still is a great album. I just think ''worst album' is a little harsh to say. It's diffrent from OBTN (Amen), so they are getting back on track [sorry for any mistakes, my English is very limited sometimes ]

I don't normally listen to leaked albums, but 'The End' beckoned me forth on YouTube.
As soon as I heard the chorus, I was about to cry(and vomit) because it was such a great song.
I'm not proud of listening to a song before the album was released, but it was worth it!

A real grower just like BOTT was,the second half of the album from beach side on is my favourite half of the album and reminds me more of the older albums a bit like ragoo great bass and little jabbing guitar if you know what i mean,it gives me a similar feeling that the older albums did,the first half of the album is filled with songs that they have been playing live so maybe thats why its taking longer for me to like the first half of the album because im so familiar with the live versions, also the first half sounds more over produced it has this fuzzy warm glow of reverb all over it,it almost sounds like two different albums they weren't joking when they said they were struggling with the sound they wanted on this album ha,iv been a fan from the start so i guess im the kind of person who should be most critical of any new album but actually i really like it,im gonna go and groove my way through the second half of the album again

Hahaha... this is funny, but it's like a physical reaction to the song... The Face made my stomach turn too... actually it was more like a punch... Matthew's fault. It's indeed a grower. One more day passes and I like it a bit more. Now I'm appreciating Puny UP and Mi Amigo better. The songs are growing on me one by one. The second part of the record rocks as much as production lets it, but live those songs will kick ass, it'll be beautiful. But I need stop listening to this album, it's getting me so fucking depressed to know that I'm not gonna be hearing to some of this tracks live next sunday when they'll be playing so close to my home. My stomach fell somewhere on the floor and my heavy heart is currently placed at my throat. I'm starting to listen to it less and will probably cut all KOL from my life for about two weeks. Hopefully I'll be back in time for the official release of the album. I think it's God's punishment for being a thief! I've been thinking and listening and I just wish that Caleb had fought for the lyrics, because he did say that he went home and rewrote them and he tried to change them, but the guys were like "you can't change the lyrics, those are the lyrics" or whatever. I just wish he had been like "there's no way me singing randomly will be my best, I need to re-write it and think about it and go deeper" instead of agreeing, because to me some of the songs just have no message, they're so vague. I hate analyzing Caleb because I think it's so unfair, but I feel there's something wrong. I don't know. He should have fought for the lyrics. I don't think they're bad, but not the greatest he's ever written either (of course there's some great lyrics like Pyro and Pick Up Truck - as confusing as it is). What I got so far is that there's a lot of homesickness, standing up for yourself, a little bit of naughty... but I need the booklet before really forming an opinion. I shouldn't even give my opinion, actually.

the lyrics to pick up truck are probably some of his best lyrics in my opinion. it's classic KOL.... the song tells a story. "a little piece of a bloody tooth" who would have that in a song? KOL!
it's my trani/snsl/arizona/cd of this album for sure. that and The End are tied. Caleb's voice in The End makes my vagina explode...that's how good it is!
i'm so hot and cold with this album... i either really love a song or i really dislike it.
i do know that the guys are super pissed it was leaked but hey... every album on my top 10 albums of the year was leaked a few weeks in advance. it happens but if you make a solid album people will still buy it.

i think some people are looking at the album compared to the rest of their material instead of from an album to album aspect. While the album may not be what people expected, i love it and love the fact that it is its own entity. YAYM was a gritty entrance, ASH was a raunchy party album, BOTT was a step into the effects realm, OBTN was a ballad album and now CAS is mostly a laid back album. THAT IS NOT BAD. i personally do not want to hear KOL release every record sounding the same, i leave the to ACDC. A lot of people are displeased with the albums mid-tempo packed songs, but when compared to kol's whole body of work, it definitely helps create a great setlist. Slow songs, kol's got it, fast balls to the walls, kol's got it, mid-tempo, kol's got it.

I generally like this album, but I'm 99% convinced it could have been produced better. Hate to keep harping on this, but the replacement of Johns with King seems is like a splash of cold water for KoL. A debbie downer, so to speak.
