Wholeheartedly agree about Ethan Johns. They need to bring him back, but it sounds like they've split for good. Not a fan of Jacquire King's work to be honest, esp. when you juxtapose KOL/King vs. KOL/Johns.

I agree about Ethan Johns, but keep in mind Jacquire was the sound engineer on Aha Shake.

Flor, I agree with everything you said, specially the part about skipping 'Radioactive' and censuring myself about it But 'Pyro' is definetly the one; I'm so in love with this song it's not even nice :s I knew I had forgot something. Pyro is brilliant. I feel like it's one of the tracks that Caleb gave more thought to the lyrics, I may be very wrong, though hahaha. Oh, I think we'll know tomorrow when they discuss the track. I liked this song as whole, everything about it is perfect.

the only thing i like about this album is that very very occasionally it sounds like the "rise and shine" bit from slow night so long...apart from that it's undoubtedly their worst album and the album that has made me lose all faith in them completely...so disappointing

wow, i know tastes in music are different but i can't understand how someone might think that this one is their worst record. but like i said, tastes are different. to me, it sounds like a great record, the album title totally suits the whole atmosphere on the album. every song somehow has that...um...sunshine in it. i hope someone understands what i'm trying to say. it's a sunny record, y'know love that matts guitar sounds so atmospheric in most songs. i don't know how else to call it, but the guitars sound so shimmering, like a warm summer breeze. plus i think there's not ONE bad song on this record. but to be honest, i don't think the kings will ever make another record that's better than aha shake heartbreak and because of the times. to me, these two are their best albums ever.

After listening to the album non-stop for the past three days I have to say I really do love the songs but not the production: The live version of Southbound was my favorite of the new songs, but on the record I'm not even sure I like it at all! Radioactive: still prefer the live version Mary: The studio version is growing on me, but sounds much better live. The Immortals: sounded much better live Pyro sounds better on the record and Pick Up Truck is equally amazing on the album as it is live. Pick Up Truck and The End are my favorites on CAS. I also love The Face and Pony Up and of course Radioactive, Mary and The Immortals. Still can't wait to get the actual copy of the album, though!

i want to love this album, i really really wanted to, but i cant. i've listened and its all the same to me, no stand out tracks whatsoever.
as far as i'm concerned they just are not the same band anymore, maybe Ethan John's had a much bigger contribution that i thought.
I could sit here and defend it, I want to because I love kol, and want to see them bringing out amazing records, that they are more than capable of.
I listened to this record though as a neutral so i could give an unbiased view, and from a neutral view its not a strong album by any means. the only reason i can give is that if i weigh come around sundown up to my favourite albums released recently (arcade fire - the suburbs, beach house - teen dream, frightened rabbit - winter of mixed drinks) it really doesnt even come close to matching them.
I'm gutted about it dont get me wrong, i think its such a shame.

^^ I agree! It absolutely cannot be the song Caleb was always talking about, because every time he did he would be really quiet and say that it's the saddest song he's ever heard. I think that it's the song that was mentioned in the Rolling Stone interview, with the "ocean liner" lyrics, but I wonder what happened?
I've been thinking and listening and I just wish that Caleb had fought for the lyrics, because he did say that he went home and rewrote them and he tried to change them, but the guys were like "you can't change the lyrics, those are the lyrics" or whatever. I just wish he had been like "there's no way me singing randomly will be my best, I need to re-write it and think about it and go deeper" instead of agreeing, because to me some of the songs just have no message, they're so vague.
Also does anyone think that Caleb intentionally didn't invest himself a lot in the lyrics, so that if this album had another few big hits like "SOF" etc. he wouldn't be as hurt? I know that's kind of paranoid but it sounds like something he could do, like now he's afraid to reveal himself so honestly in case it becomes distorted by all the people that did not understand OBTN. He definitely was self-sabotaging, like Jared said about the "Radioactive" riff. Thoughts?
Having said that I find it amazing how avante-garde Jared is, he's so awesome and has improved so much, I really admire that.

He is definitely the most interested in the "weirdest" music of all the them though, so his basslines tend to reflect that. He has a pretty big 80's influence as well.

I still don't get it: Will the Deluxe Edition have Celebration + Hyde Park tracks on it or will it just have Celebration and Radioactive stuff on it that we've all seen online already? I want Hyde Park tracks!!!

Pickup Truck is my favorite song. Although what girl wouldn't be impressed with a piece of Caleb's bloody tooth, I find the rest of the lyrics on that one song the best he's ever done. The band sounds perfect for that song as well. I love Back Down South and Radioactive, hate Mary and Beach Side and possibly the rest of the album. It is just not their best work. As middle of the road as OBTN is, it is better than this one. I will only buy it because I want the bonus material. I'm holding out for a Charmer or Wasted Time. I know, quit hoping for the past, they aren't ever going to be that good again.

So far if I believe Itunes, there will be no hyde park tracks on the deluxe edition, but then again, I am in france, we never get the cool stuff, they might reserve the hyde park songs for the uk fans

I can't believe all the negative comments coming from KOL's fans! They really have got the hardest fans to please. I am a really big fan, been following them since Aha Shake and I think this album is on par with ASH and BotT definetly an improvement on OBtN. I love it! The whole sound is so carefree and fun just like they were on ASH, and it has a real groove running through the whole album. To be honest this is the only album I listen all the way through without skipping a track. Best tracks for me are Mary, The Face, Pickup Truck, No Money, The Immortals and The End. But all the rest are fantastic I can't pick a weak one because I love the overall sound of the album.
I know everyone has their own taste but the fans need to give up hoping for another another album like their first two. They did that sound great back them and now they have just expanded and refined it, its a good job they haven't done album after album the same because they probably wouldn't be around today, look at all the bands that sound the same after every album, where are they now?
