When I first listened, I noticed a lot of the songs sounded similar (No Money sounds a little bit like a sped up version of The Immortals) and it put it me off. But after another couple of listens I realized that this similarity is actually a good thing because it unifies the album, unlike OBTN which to me sounded vary sporadic. Moose, you have summed up a lot of my feelings about the album too, and I especially appreciated this bit I quoted. Some people felt OBTN lacked any sort of 'story' (which I can understand - it did indeed seem more a collection of songs than a story) whereas I think CAS has that and it has a sound totally its own which reflects where they are now as a band and as people. It's a little bit of all four albums (though leaning more heavily on the latter two in my opinion) plus some more. For my part, I love it, and from first listen I felt that they'd made the album they wanted to make and it was more than good enough for me. That's not to discredit anyone who disagrees with me though - everyone has an opinion and they're never going to please everybody. The production - I admit it does sound more produced than the other albums, but I can still enjoy it a massive amount despite that. Especially as I'm hardly the most knowledgable person when it comes to that side of things. Matt and Jared excel on this album as far as I'm concerned. Some of the basslines are so funky and Matt's guitar work was incredible. More than once I sort of looked over at my boyfriend with the whole going on, haha. Anyway, I've rambled too long so out of a need to shut up and because I'm lazy, I'll quote texas' last comment from his initial post as I totally agree. The only other highly-anticipated album for me this year sucked ass and CAS wipes the floor with it then spits on it and challenges it to a bar fight - which it goes on to win. Bottom line, this album is cooler than any album that has come out this year, and it has a surprising sophistication about it that makes me proud as a fan.

basically crap.
I thought that maybe they'd make a good album, since there last good one was Aha.
There new-found fanbase of Twilight fans only sums this up.

And I am sorry? did I hear best album of the year?
Are you joking?
Arcade Fire's record and The National's record was almost flawless - as was Titus Andronicus etc.
Please, don't taint this forum with complete nonsense.

There's no need to be rude.
So you don't like it. That's totally fine with me, but don't discredit my opinion and make assumptions about who I am. If you don't like it, say you don't like it then move on, no-one's making you listen to it.
'Taint this forum'? Oh, I'm sorry, I was under the impression I had been here just as long as you and have over 13,380 more posts than you do, not made up entirely of whinging like your 3 posts appear to be. Silly me.
And you need to learn the difference between 'there' and 'their' before you come on the big 'I am'.
I'm glad you loved The National's last record - it means you can go and discuss how wonderful it was with people who like The National and piss off from here.

Right on, Ali. Don't come here and 'taint' this forum with your hatred. If you don't like the album, fine. You don't have to be a dickwad to others just because they feel otherwise. I personally would not call it the best album of the year, but it is still good, and definitely a step up and away from OBTN. And for the record, i hate Twilight.

Does immaturity like yours come naturally or do you have to work at it?

personally i think this could possibly be the best album yet! i love the first 2 albums more than any other records i own, but this is something special, obtn as much as people slag it of was still very good but this stands alone from anything they have done before, 1 thing i said to my gf is that on this record every song has its place , whereas on the others there were tunes that kinda got lost ( trunk, camaro, where nobody knows etc....) as good as those songs are individually they kinda didnt fit in with the feel of the album, but i think this album really flows and gets better with every listen!!!( kinda sounds like an expansion of arizona ) roll on december and birmingham!!!!! cant wait!!!!

Totally agreed about the Arizona thing. More than once I found myself saying that there were shades of Arizona. Also I felt a couple of times that there were likenesses to Milk in certain songs.

Just a thought: Texas, would it be worth editing the thread title to include 'spoilers' or something? I'm not sure it's immediately clear to everyone that we are actually including in-depth chat about the songs and some people may stumble in without realising it's not just like the old thread where it was mainly anticipation.
Haha! Well I definitely heard it there leon. Whether others would agree I don't know!

for me is one of the best album I've heard this year, and every time I hear I like more . I think it's much better than OBTN and when I heard I have the feeling that the band did what I really felt at that time.there is a consistency throughout the album Ali love as you explain the album, I totally agree with you now feel unable to express myself well in English, because there are so many things that would mean.

I havent heard anything yet, apart from what we already know, but so far it seems promising and I cant wait, and Arizona is my second fave song of theirs after Knocked up, so any Arizona-like song is great in my books.
And for the record, I also am totally uninterested in twilight. Its rude to take on established members of this forum and try to look like you know better, in the end you will only look like a total prick, if it hasnt started already. A bit like an ant trying to fight a bull

For me this album is what I wanted. It somehow takes the bounciness of ASH and adds the musical structure of BotT. I would gladly skip the entire OBtN recording to get to this one. Caleb sings openly but also has the draw and mush mouth back like the first two records. They went out on a limb on some tracks such as The End, The Face, Mary, & Back Down South. The whole record is all upbeat I just wish they could have put off Beach Side and maybe in return add a slow track, a "Milk" track. I live in a nice size town that started playing KoL once Use Somebody come out and I was thrilled to listen to this record and find not a single Sex Somebody track that will flood the radio stations. Jared's bass seems to be the focal point, its such a powerful sound that he brings to every track. Odd to not find Lucyfur: Devil Song on the record but the record is still good. I really enjoy the record. I just wonder what amazing track they will not play live like "The Runner, 17, Trunk."

It reminds me of people who calls each other gay in order to insult

Probably because it makes those people feel better about themselves, they think they know better than everybody else, the kind of thing that a 16 year old would do lol, maybe he is actually 16.
Anyway, Ali just told me there are a couple of heavy songs in the vein of Crawl/Charmer, I love a good old heavy riff you see. I will then buy the album with closed eyes and will play the album with still closed eyes. BOTT is really my fave album of theirs so if the new album is supposed to be its 'follow up', that CD will never leave my ipod. I do love OBTN but now I know more about all things KO, I cant help thinking it was a bit 'rushed', didnt caleb say that they wrote it because they didnt want to headline Glastonbury without any new material ? Thats only my two cents about it.
