Beck - The New Pollution It's just so...bouncy and retro-ish. Sets the mood for the song aswell. WHat I like most about that is the way it shifts suddenly from vocals to instruments. Feels like a car being put suddenly into too low a gear, but in a good way. Beck's really good at intros. Also 1000bpm - really like that intro. A few more: That's not Really Funny, Flyswatter - The Eels. Galaxie - Blind Melon Super Massive Blackhole - muse Venus in Furs - the Velvet Underground Mannish Boy - Muddy Waters I agree with White Winter Hymnal EDIT : this is harder than I thought, I keep changing my mind. thanks to those that gave me karma

Don't know if anyone else has said it but...
Brianstorm by Arctic Monkeys has a beast of an intro.
Men's Needs by The Cribs has an awesome (if simple) intro.
Hysteria by Muse? There's too many to think of!

Like a car shifting into gear? Now that I think of it, it really does give that effect! Karma for a great description I really like the intro for The Waterboys - Fisherman's Blues. It kind of builds it up a little for the start before diving down into the instrumental before the first verse. I think it gives a very nice effect.

Brianstorm by Arctic Monkeys has a beast of an intro. this is true. There's too many to think of! this is also true. It's starting to bug me now that some amazing tracks don't have much of an intro. Some have no intro at all.

I'm curious to know - which songs do you think have brilliant intros? Off the top of my head - 3 Hendrix : Purple Haze Voodoo Child (Slight Return) (that is so good) Foxey Lady Definitely love these three intros! Led Zeppelin - Over the Hills and far away I love that song, and the intro is so sweet. And that was my favourite Zeppelin song for so long!! My favourite intros are: Tetragrammaton - The Mars Volta One Armed Scissor - At The Drive-In Cicatriz ESP - The Mars Volta Achilles' Last Stand - Led Zeppelin Aneurysm - Nirvana and lots more!

Beck - Diamond Bollocks Led Zeppelin - Bring It On Home (Not sure if a minute and a half should be considered as an intro or as the first part of the song, but I'll put it down here anyway).

A quick one- - How Soon Is Now - The Smiths. (not sure if an intro counts when it is the same all the way through the track, but hearing this for the first time was one of the musical highlights of the 80's)
and - Yellow Ledbetter - Pearl Jam (maybe someone already said it)
