should we have a thread for this? I feel like the hollywood bowl is kind of a landmark venue so maybe the kings will put on a memorable show. I haven't seen them since the san diego show last summer, so it'll be a nice reunion. I'll be sure to give a good review after
is anyone else going?

I'll be there! Everyone says they've been really "on" since they started this tour so I can't wait to see it and hear the new songs!

yeah so far the reviews have been great, it's hard to imagine them being any better than last time but I guess we'll find out what that's like

okay so here's my best attempt at a good review I got there in time to see the opening bands which were both pretty good. For a second I thought that the Features were stealing the show...but then I remembered who I was actually there to see. When things got down to business and the Kings walked on they walked through this cloud of red smoke which was pretty badass. They opened with Crawl...I'm starting to worry that the setlists of the shows are a little too similar, but I didn't let that ruin it for me because they always put on a great show no matter what songs they play. Also, let me just say to no reviews on this forum, no videos, and no bootlegs can prepare you for hearing the new songs live. They truly are something to be experienced on your own. My one MAJOR complaint with this show was that the crowd was AWFUL. Me and my friends were the only people standing in our section, which is blasphemy for any concert. And that bummed me out because Caleb kept saying how playing at the Hollywood Bowl was such a big deal for them, but it seemed like no one really cared. I'm sure the better fans were sitting somewhere else but around me it just sucked. Everyone managed to stand up during SOF and USE which is almost more of an insult than sitting down for the whole concert. And I'm pretty sure people didn't even realize the new songs were new, and there's absolutely no way they had any idea what Trani even was (Trani was AMAZING BY THE WAY). Other than the shit crowd it was a really good show and I can't wait to see them again in Irvine tomorrow! Hearing Trani was a big deal for me because that song came out when I was like 11 so it's always been just like a myth to me since I've never seen it

Glad to hear you had a good time! It stinks that the crowd was so bad, but hey at least you enjoyed yourself. Their loss.
I hear that Jessica Biel, Lauren Conrad, and Hilary Duff were also there. Exciting....

I heard on Twitter there were a lot of celebrities at this show... but it sucks the crowd was bad. I know the true fans knew how lucky they were to hear Trani, but those others probably didn't. I hope at my show the crowd shapes a little.

Yeah, judging by YouTube vids, the crowd was lame.
But with a lame crowd, all you can do it just have fun and enjoy yourself. They wont even know what they are missing.
Yeah, all the celebs...every hipster needs to latch on the current big thing and be photographed at their concerts. Yawn.

I would have to agree with the above review! The new songs were mind blowing! The crowd blew! It was a lot of celebs/people that think they're celebs but that's what you'll have in LA. My friend said he saw Zack Morris and Tommy Lee...Sorry I dont know Zach Morris' real name but I was oblivious! I was too into the bands! Nursing a major hangover from the various post concert events I attended

Nursing a major hangover from the various post concert events I attended I see you heeded Caleb's advice: "everyone get drunk!"

I mean if Caleb Followill commands me to get drunk I have no choice right?
I am pretty disapointed in the set list other than the new songs. It's pretty much the same recycled set list from the last tour. They need to spice it up for every show... keep us guessing.

I was in the very front row, it was the best seat I have ever had. SO CLOSE, no security guards in front of us. It was just amazing. I'll be writing an extremely detailed review to be posted hopefully tonight. I didn't notice the crowd but the front 2 rows was very random; a little girl and a ton of older people. It was strange. The thing that really annoyed me was that the girl right next to me kept screaming for Use Somebody...she really didn't deserve to have such a good seat. I was rocking out as hard as I could, everyone around me was kind of bopping but I saw maybe about 3 or 4 of them singing. Pretty sure they all kept looking at me like it was weird I knew all the words and was dancing...
Anyway I have a lot more to say so stay tuned for the review!

The review says it all. The Kings definitely deserve a more excited and appreciative audience than they received last night. When everyone was dancing and singing along to SOF, all I could ask myself is why the rest of the setlist was so underappreciated. The new stuff was MIND-BLOWING, especially Mary. Holy shit I was not prepared for that. Not to mention Trani was unreal. After waking up this morning with post-KOL concert blues, I bought a ticket for the Irvine show. Overall amazing night, I just hope that Irvine shows our boys more love. See y'all there!

Oh my god!! That video, of Use Somebody!! Is that real!? they're so close to the band, and all they're doing is... kind of nothing..... That's not fun. how much money did they spend to go do that.. it's really not fair for them to play with an audience so bad as that!! Eff those people.. man. haha I live 5 hours away from LA, I bet I couldve gone to that concert. But I couldnt cause it was sold out by the time I was finally getting a 'maybe' from my parents!! And does anyone have a video of Trani!? I'd looove to see it

Another long one!
Before
So the Hollywood Bowl is all seated. Usually seated shows are lame but I was relieved to have a break from waiting in line for hours and worrying about getting a good spot. It was nice to just relax all day and then head to the venue knowing I had a great seat (I somehow managed to score two in the very front row). So at around 6 I headed to the venue. This was a mistake because I didn’t factor in traffic and the limited parking that the Bowl has. In a nutshell, getting to the venue was an absolute NIGHTMARE. Everyone was heading there at the same time so the lanes were practically at a standstill; then I missed my turn and had to wait in yet ANOTHER line. Eventually we decided to pay $20 for a spot in a church parking lot several blocks away from the Bowl.
At this point it was about 8:15 so I had missed The Features and Built to Spill was close to finishing their set. Once we got into the venue we were escorted to our seats…and…WOW. I had absolutely no idea just how close the front row was to the stage; my chair was literally a foot from it, and it was really low too. Plus there were no security guards stationed in front of it like there usually are so the view was completely unobstructed. It’s hard to explain in words but all I’ll say is that it was the absolute best view I have ever had. Hollywood Bowl is definitely one of my favorite venues now and I hope they play there again for the album tour.
So I sat in my seat and drank some water/ate some chips while Built to Spill finished up their set. The front two rows began filling up (the “pool circle” is two rows and then there’s a barrier behind the 2nd row that separates us from the rest of the seating--it felt super VIP!) and let me tell you, it was the most random group of people. I looked really out of place because most of them were older who clearly got the seats because of whom they knew. They were all pretty dressed up too. So as the arena began to fill up, the roadies worked really quickly and in no time at all, KOL were about to come out. One of their security guards made sure to let us in the front know that the boys would be feeding off our energy and that if we rocked out hard, they would rock out hard. This actually made me a little nervous though, like the entire show was riding on us!
During
I was surprised when two huge clouds of deep red smoke began pluming out from either side of the stage; this didn’t happen in Phoenix so it must’ve been due to some malfunction. The smoke was so cool and really set the tone for the show. I was looking out for the boys stage left but nope, they decided to come out stage right, Nate first. It was so awesome because of my view; it was almost like they were standing right next to us. So they took their positions and opened with…Crawl. No surprise there.
The whole show was great as usual but made even more so because of where I was sitting. We were so close that if we wanted to we could make conversation with the boys in between songs; unfortunately this dude next to me realized this and would yell—LOUDLY—at Caleb in between every single song. He kept saying really stupid things too, like telling Caleb to take a double shot and to introduce the ‘new guy’ to us (Chris). Caleb tried to ignore him as much as possible but it’s kind of hard when they’re that close so at one point Caleb asked him if he wanted a drink…the dude said yeah so Caleb told him to “shut the fuck up then”. But of course Caleb’s not a mean guy so he had one of the security guards bring the dude a shot afterward. The security guard kept warning the guy to stop but he never did, even after that. At one point Jared walked over to Caleb and they were talking about him and Jared said something to the guy, I think “stop it?”...but kind of jokey in that Jared way (a lot like “wrap those around his balls” haha).
So anyway during the show Caleb stopped to talk a few times. He said something like they never thought they’d get there and that they remember playing the Viper Room. Not many people cheered loud at this which makes me suspect that not a lot of ‘old fans’ were there…but that’s not a surprise considering. He also said that it was special because Betty-Ann was in the audience…I think this had a big effect on his performance because he kept the cursing (and drinking even) to a minimum. You know that look he sometimes gets where he blinks a lot and looks like he’s about to cry? Well I saw that a few times, mostly when he was explaining how grateful and amazed they were that they were playing there.
Right before they were about to start Four Kicks, during the little rat-a-tat that Nathan does as a precursor, he missed the cue to start. He started laughing and all the boys looked at him like ? but it was funny and cute. I gave Nate a little thumbs up and said ‘good job’, ha. A lot of people have been saying in their reviews that the crowd was shit…I didn’t notice this from where I was, probably because I was too busy rocking out…but the people in the two front rows were a bit mellow. Some of them were just bopping their heads and not even singing while I only saw a couple people who knew all the words. But I think a lot of them kept looking at me like I was weird for dancing and singing so enthusiastically, especially during the new songs because I knew the words.
I figured (okay, hoped) that this would garner at least a look from Caleb, or any of them for that matter…but that didn’t happen. Caleb actually kept throwing things to all the people on his left side. He even picked out one girl specifically to throw his hanky to (whom my mom told me later was blonde and pretty and all done up…figures). I don’t know if this is because they were rocking out or what…but our side got basically no love. And I was doing the best I could…I was actually pretty bummed about it afterward but that’s a whole other story.
So anyway they played all the new songs again, which are just completely awesome live. The only change in the setlist was that they added Black Thumbnail back to the encore. Which was actually pretty cool to watch them rock out to during the fireworks. The show ended, they all waved, etc.
After
Afterwards I waited for a couple minutes in hopes of getting a setlist or a drumstick, with no luck. Luckily my mom (she was also in the front row, on Jared’s side) said that Jared had thrown her his wine cup and she managed to get a setlist from one of the roadies. I know, awesome. I can’t really picture Jared throwing something to a mom in the front row but I’m glad he did, haha.
So after that I headed to the merch stand where I got a tote bag. Then we walked back to our car and headed home. It was probably one of the best performances I’ve seen and I hope I’ll be able to catch them at the Hollywood Bowl many more times.
