Shelly, that was an amazing review! And the pics are great! I'm really glad you had such a wonderful time, and that you got to the barrier. It's a shame they didn't play Closer, but I'm sure they will next time you see them. Karma!

Shellyboobie! I'm so happy you had a great time, sucks about Closer, but look at it this way you wouldn't have heard any of it anyway, too busy giving Matt eyesex while he's "going down" on his geetar. Unless that was the reason why you wanted them to play it. No, surely not. Great pix! Especially love Leb in red. And did Meggie and Matt have a conflab prior to the gig about the matching shirt thing? Looking at those pix of Matt I bet Basil received an extra special treat. So happy you had a blast, hun! Now git your ass on here so you can tell me all the bits you forgot!

Here's my review. BeforeLet me start by saying that I hadn't gotten any sleep for 2 days by the day of the show, and I was not at all prepared for the cold in Minneapolis, so I was pretty miserable. The excitement I usually feel before KOL was almost non-existent because I was so exhausted but I forgot about everything during the actual show, and it was like any other time. Just wanted to add this because it really affected my experience. Anyways I got to the Target Center around 2 PM and started waiting in line behind two other girls. Surprisingly, it was only us 3 until almost 5, when others started trickling in. The doors were set to open at 7. Shelly texted me and told me that Meg was already in line, which I didn't know, so I went and sat with her a couple people behind where I was and then Shelly and Sarah showed up. We waited patiently until the doors opened, and then kind of ran frantically inside, where they made us put our tickets in a box (?!) and gave us yellow wristbands. I was pissed that they took my ticket because it was pretty snazzy Once inside I ran straight to my regular spot, a little to the left of Caleb (my left). I saw Shelly and the other girls get their perfect spot right in front of Matt. The arena slowly filled up as the (second) waiting game started. The ShowOkay, WHITE FREAKING LIES. I was just as excited to see them as I was KOL, and they did not disappoint at all. The lead singer (Harry) has a really powerful voice and is extremely smiley! He likes to encourage the crowd to clap to the beat and he walks to the edge of the stage a lot. He looked genuinely happy to see how many people were there to watch them. My camera died in the middle of their performace (major bummer) so I only got one picture the entire night, which was of White Lies' drummer, Jack. He is really great too. They played about 7 or 8 songs I think, ending with Death, which even though I don't know all the words to yet, I rocked out to pretty hard. Once they went off, there were double the amount of people onstage setting up for the Kings, so we didn't have to wait as long as usual. Okay so the lights dimmed, cheers, intro started, Kings walk on from stage left. The first thing I noticed was Caleb's BRIGHT red shirt, and right when I saw it I yelled "RED!" because it was so awesome, haha. He looks great in that color. They opened with Crawl. Before the show started this guy next to me was predicting to his friends that they would open with an old song, which I've heard someone say at almost every show I've been to. I predicted either Closer, Crawl, or Be Somebody (duh! ), needless to say, he was proven wrong! Charmer was second, which was a nice little surprise since they usually stick in the middle or closer to the end. I think those two together in the beginning really pumped up the crowd. Be Somebody followed. NEXT, the absolute BEST moment of the entire night, was KING OF THE RODEO! I half expected them not to play it but once I heard the intro I flipped the eff out! I clapped and screamed so hard, everyone around me probably wondered what the hell was wrong with me, and why was I so excited? But all I could think about or pay attnetion to was KOTR actually being played right in front of me. It wasn't a dream I even forgot some of the words because I was so shocked/excited. It ended far too soon, but I'm soooooo so happy that I got to experience it. Another new one for me was I Want You, which was GREAT! Caleb's little facial expressions during it are funny. This and KOTR two were the highlights of the night for me. Caleb kept his speeches short this time, and he did mention that they were all fighting colds. Even though they rocked out as hard as usual, I've seen enough shows by now to know when something is off. But I won't go into detail on that because I now know that it was all due to them being ill, and I totally commend them for going on with the show and being as professional as they always are. They also decided during the show to cut out Trani and Closer, which were on the set list. At one point Caleb looked up at the stands and I thought he was gonna go off about people sitting, but he said how it was so great that they were all standing. So that was cool. One funny thing though, when Caleb was talking about them being sick he said something like "...we're giving as much energy as we can" and Jared, who had his back turned to the crowd at the time, looked at him and made this hilarious face like "what the fuck? bullshitter" He does that a lot though, makes faces at things Caleb says. Caleb never sees him, so he gets away with it, which is the funny part! Aaaaaanyways, although it was cut a bit short, I had a ton of fun from start to finish. I'm really proud of all of them for doing what they do even when faced with crappy circumstances. When Caleb was the only one left on the stage at the end, and he was about to walk off, he tied up his hanky and tossed it into the crowd. He made this shocked face at whoever caught it, obviously mocking them, which I've noticed he tends to do! I think he likes to make fun of the fangirls! AfterBefore the show started, I had asked one of the security guards if he could give me a setlist or drumstick at the end if possible, as I always do. He said he would do his best, but once the show was over, he kind of disappeared. Darren gave one of the other guards a big handful of drumsticks, which he passed out, and another roadie crumpled up one of the set lists and threw it in front of us. I wasn't successful with getting anything, so I started walking toward the exit. One of the two girls who I had waited in line with, and who was next to me on the barrier, found me and gave me the setlist, which she got along with a drumstick. I was so surprised and grateful! I also got one of Caleb's picks during the show. So I didn't walk away empty handed After I got picked up, I was still buzzed from the show, so it didn't really sink in that this was my last KOL show of this tour. I only started thinking about it today, and I'm trying not to be too upset because I have other things to focus on right now...not to mention that this is good because they need a break. Plus, there's a new album and a new tour to look forward to in good time So this is for the best. I actually want nothing more right now than for them to go home and get the rest they desperately need. BUT, of course there's always that little twinge of depression, which I'm not going to deny! Anyways, that's it. I'll add if I think of things I forgot to mention. Setlist (in order)Crawl Charmer Be Somebody King of the Rodeo Taper Jean Girl Molly's Chambers Fans Revelry I Want You Four Kicks The Bucket Sex on Fire Notion Manhattan On Call Cold Desert [Trani]Encore[Closer]Knocked Up Use Somebody Black Thumbnail

omg savanna!!! you got a pick, setlist AND drumstick!? Well you deserved it all since you flew there just for the show, and you didn't get any sleep! I didnt see Jared's face after what Caleb said LOL So that means Caleb was LYING or what? I'm still ticked they passed over Closer, GRRRRRR I hope they keep it on the setlist after the next album comes out. That really sucks you were so tired, I thought you were just naturally quiet LOL That is a major bummer your camera died during White Lies! Well you can save ours, if Sarah doesn't post hers, i'll do it cuz she's gonna share with me, and Meghan is uploading hers soon!

I dont know, the link works for me. But here is the review.
Kings of Leon rock and rule The masses don't seem to mind an ailing lead singer By Ross Raihala Pop Music Critic Updated: 09/29/2009 12:16:12 AM CDT
kings of leon (DEAN CHALKLEY LTD) From the moment Tennessee rockers Kings of Leon emerged in 2003, cynical types couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. From their almost too-perfect back story to their seemingly instant success in England to their breathtakingly tight trousers, Kings of Leon gave the doubters plenty of ammunition.
But tours with Bob Dylan, U2 and Pearl Jam taught the band a thing or two about entertaining the masses.
In 2007, they released "Because of the Times," an audacious announcement that these guys were ready to headline arenas. Somewhat amazingly, it worked. Monday night, the foursome drew a crowd of about 10,000 to the Target Center.
To be clear, the group — three brothers and a cousin raised by a traveling Pentecostal preacher — has played to huge audiences in England for years. Novelty-hungry Brits were early adopters back when the boys were marketed as the Hillbilly Strokes. That Americans got on board, with such fervor, still seems somewhat odd in a marketplace that's not exactly friendly to relatively straightforward, old-fashioned rock bands.
Yet KOL's fourth album, last year's "Only by the Night," cashed the check the band wrote in 2007 and has sold more than 1 million copies and launched two massive radio hits in "Sex on Fire" and "Use Somebody." As such, the set list drew heavily from the disc, with even its non-singles capturing the attention of the largely college-age crowd.
The band opened with the meaty, Led Zeppelin-like rocker "Crawl"
and the audience was so up for it, they even applauded the guitar solo. "Charmer," a blatant Pixies rip-off, followed and had just as many fists pumping. Almost from the start, though, it was pretty clear something was amiss on stage.
Eventually, lead singer Caleb Followill announced what anyone who watched his pale, strained and sweaty face on the big screens knew anyway, that he was struggling with some illness. Later, he grasped a tissue in his fist and, even later, he downed some unspecified liquid from a plastic cup. (The band members are notorious for their love of all things alcoholic.)
But even without all cylinders firing, Kings of Leon powered through a 90-minute set filled with highlights, from the slow-burning cool of "On Call" to the midtempo "Revelry," a remarkable '70s light-rock throwback. Best of all was "Molly's Chambers," a swaggering and sexy cut from the band's earliest days.
Lyrically speaking, "Sex on Fire" is about as subtle as a punch to the face, but the track was an obvious audience hit, nestled near the end of the main set.
"Use Somebody" popped in the encore and quickly became a massive group sing, with 10,000 voices backing up the ailing Followill.

Oh, poor Caleb. Hope he gets better soon. It's probably exhaustive to sing when you should be in a bed resting . You have to praise these guys... even sick they are professional enough to give the audience an amazing show. Thanks for the reviews!

Oh cool another MN HA'er! You'll have to post more often so next year you can join our group! I can't believe Closer and Trani were on the setlist and they still didn't play them. I wonder why they changed their minds? I'm still so bummed I didn't get to hear my favorite song. *pouts* [/quote] Posting pictures is proving to be a difficult task so I just posted a link to my Facebook album-there’s about 10 up so far. www.facebook.com/annieschirmers?v=photos&ref=profile#/album.php?aid=194254&id=1476489950 Shelly I will try to post as often as I can & next time will definitely join the HA’ers. Looking at your pics I was only a couple of people behind you in line before doors opened. The person I was going with had a family emergency around one that day and couldn’t make the concert so I wound up going to the concert solo & sold the other ticket to another girl in line. So it would have been nice to know other people there. But once the doors opened and by the time KOL started playing I could have cared less about being solo & had the time of my life.

I was in the same spot the whole time, right in front of Jared. I was in 2nd row but once the crowd started to shift I was damn near on top of them from getting pushed forward-not much you could do about that. I had a perfect view of Caleb & Jared the whole time. I thought I would be focused on Caleb the whole time but I couldn’t take my eyes off of Jared. I didn’t really get too many of good shots of Matt & the times I did get to see him it looked like he was kind of dragging but looking at your pics he was giving love to the crowd.
When they first came on I thought Caleb was beyond wasted & it was going to be an interesting show, but once I heard his voice, he was wiping his nose & the obvs he said they were getting sick it made more sense. But still-Caleb what a showman, even with being sick he was all in. I loved how many times he rolled his eyes while singing. I was surprised being so close to the front I thought everyone would be jumping around signing along to every song but people right around me were not as excited as I was. I’m sure they thought I was nuts because once I heard Taper Jean Girl, King of the Rodeo, The Bucket, 4 Kicks-shoot all of them I was going nuts.
