Jay-Z was a massive KOL fan? Yep, he just said so during his interview w/ Zane Lowe on Radio 1. Then requested they play Use Somebody.

Could've been worse. He could have requested Sex on Fire. I'm just surprised he knows who they are.

jay z? who's that!?...Just kidding! Weird that he is a fan of KOL, but artists find inspiration in the oddest of places.

^Im sure it was 'ole' Jay Z!! Im not surprised he's a fan actually - they have loads of famous fans (Chris Martin, Justin Timberlake, Zac Efron etc) Its just funny how we only found out about most of them (the Zac Efron types, say) after OBTN/theGrammys/MTV awards!! But I guess other musicians who are fans would have known about them for a while being in the same industry and all!

He could have requested a better song than that quote can't be such a huge fan huh Or he originally requested another song but the radio station didn't have it, and so he had to request something newer. Stations can make it sound like the phone call was 'live' when in fact it was pre-recorded and edited. I think Jay-Z can be credited with a varied taste in music; he runs (or ran) a label and has worked with producers of different backgrounds like Rick Rubin.

He obviously didn't put much thought into that line. Being the amazing poet he is, you'd have thought he'd come up with something that rhymes better than that.
