The song was written before he was famous or even known. It's a song of "fantasy", so I wouldnt put too much stock in it, since it's basically him imagining and observing "fame". Besides, Caleb was 20-21 years old when he wrote it, so things have changed.
The majority of accounts of meeting them say that they were very polite and not rude at all.
Just my 2 cents

? i was agreeing with you, saying because of the way caleb sort of mumbles it's easy to just sort of make up parts without fully understanding them...

I hope that's not what Genius is about lol! I don't think they'd experienced enough paparazzi and mental fans etc by the release of Y&YM to write a song about being annoyed by it. If it had been on OBTN or even BOTT, it might be a more plausible back story. I've heard Caleb say a few times as well that a lot of his lyrics are based on imaginary stories, and I reckon of all the albums, Y&YM is probably the most imaginary. Besides, from what I've heard from people who've met the band is that they're all really friendly and chatty and cheerful. I hope so anyway lol, don't ruin my perfect image of them!

I was just trying to get peoples feelings about it. Does anyone think that maybe they do feel that way at the present time... like maybe when you hear the stories of them looking angry and/or passing ppl by and just getting on their bus etc... I cant say for myself since I have never had the opportunity (yet ) to meet them!

Hmm good question, I reckon they probably do a bit. Like, Jared always turns his back on the crowd nowadays, and reportedly said that 60% of the fans he meets, he hates. They never thought they'd have this much fame, so probably weren't prepared for it. I know I'd be pissed off with cameras in my face at every turn. I think they probably want to be kind to the fans that have made them into rock gods, but it's probably quite difficult to be cheery all the time. I hope they're nice to me if I ever meet them!

Jared didn't say he hates 60% of fans he meets...he just said he hates 60% of people he meets...I don't think its directed at the fans necessarily.

Oh right, sorry sorocksteady. I remember reading it in an interview somewhere, must have misremembered the exact words lol. Still, the majority of people they meet will probably be fans, what with having been constantly on tour for most of their musical career.

Also (I hope this doesn't come across as being contrary...) I think Jared said that him facing the back of the stage was a musical thing, trying to hear the notes better or something? He's stopped doing it now, I think he realised it came across as standoffish! Haha I'm so eager to justify bad behaviour!!
I'm sure they can be bastards at times! lalalalala *not listening to self*

Haha I hope you're right about the sound thing! I'd love to see him facing the crowd when I see them live! Ha, it's not bad behaviour, I mean, they're some of the nicest rock stars I've seen in interviews. we can let them off every now and then

He hasn't stopped it, has he..? He looked up like.. 2 times, max, in Copenhagen. With his back facing us all the time. I can't help it but I really, really don't like Jared. I'm glad they have Nathan to balance the Jaredness. Blah. On another note... I love Genius As everyone else said though, I think it was mostly.. future-thoughts.
