KINGS OF LEON TO LAUNCH NEW RECORD LABEL IMPRINT BUG MUSIC AND KINGS OF LEON CO-VENTURETO LAUNCH NEW RECORD LABEL IMPRINT
FIRST ARTIST, THE FEATURES, SIGN TO DYNAMIC NEW LABEL
Los Angeles, CA " June 17, 2009 " Bug Music the largest independent contemporary music publisher in the world, has launched a new record label imprint with global chart-topping rock innovators Kings Of Leon, it was announced today by Bug Music CEO John Rudolph. Details of the first release on the imprint, The Features “Some Kind of Salvation,” will be announced next week.
The inventive new label venture is the culmination of a creative new deal Bug Music and Kings Of Leon entered into the fall of 2008. The terms of that agreement allow the Kings Of Leon to sign and develop artists with Bug Music, in the spirit of discovering dynamic artists that are committed as a band and writing extraordinary music. The first artist signed is fellow Tennessee brethren The Features, a band with a decade of songs and touring. Longtime supporter of The Features, Kings Of Leon previously toured the UK and US with the band in 2007.
“Caleb, Jared, Matthew and Nathan are extraordinary tastemakers and constantly absorbing new sounds from all over the world,” said Rudolph. “The honesty in their music is what draws them to genuine artists. We are excited about developing new artists together as Bug Music continues to innovate and challenge the industry’s traditional thinking of a publisher.”
Critically lauded throughout the U.K., The Features recently performed at the Bonnaroo Music Festival and are slated to hit the road throughout the U.S. this summer and fall in support of the album release. “Some Kind of Salvation” was produced by Grammy-Award winning Jacquire King (Modest Mouse, Kings Of Leon, Tom Waits, Sea Wolf) and Brian Carter at his Paradox Production facility in Murfreesboro, TN. The band features Matthew Pelham (guitar, lead vocals), Roger Dabbs (bass guitar), Mark Bond (keyboards) and Rollum Haas (drums).

This is very cool! But I'm confused... I totally they already had something like this, in all of their CDs it says stuff is published by 'Followill Music' - anyone know what that's for then?

I know this might be a stupid question but, since they have their own label now does this mean they are no longer with RCA? Or is the new record label just for bands that they want 2 sign?

Publishing rights is co-owned by Followill Music I think - basically means they have a secured claim to the ownership of their work. Doesn't mean they are necessarily going to release on this new label, first they have to finish their deal with RCA et al and its more than likely that the deal will be up after album number 5 but i'm sure RCA will be putting a nice figure down for the renewal so its up to them if they wanna go it alone after album 5 on their own label or stay with RCA who have been pretty good to them it seems (from the outside looking in).
