Glad you guys had such a great time. Michelle, your photos are fantastic - karma! And karma when I can for Eliserichardson for the Frontier City video too. Matt & Nate did a good job of the backing vocals, I'm impressed

i just got back from the long drive home ok let me start by getting the fan girl side of me out. i knew before this show that their girlfriends were the luckiest ppl alive (especially Lily), but after seeing the boys in person. DAMN! it is 100% fact now. i did not think that Caleb could get any hotter, but i was wrong. (ok i had to get that out of my system). i got first row! on matt's side i know it's probably crazy to think i made eye contact w/ any of them, but to me it seemed that i made eye contact multiple times w/ Jared & Caleb, & once w/ Nathan. i think Jared even smiled at me! & Caleb made a really sexy stare in my direction. i also have a knew found love for Matt who is just so cool on stage. i know that a lot of ppl have seen them multiple times so hearing most of OBTN was probably not ideal, but since i've never seen them before, it could NOT HAVE BEEN MORE PERFECT!!! i've watched countless videos, and heard recordings, & heard by word of mouth how great they are live, but i was completely blown away. it was like i was discovering them again ... hearing them for the first time (which you all know is a great experience). my love for them, and for music in general is so much stronger after getting to see them live, i simply can't explain the feeling (wow i'm rambling, sorry this is so long) i got so wrapped up in the music i forgot to take pix sorry. & i'm so glad i got to meet some of my friends from here! post-concert depression is sinking in, & i already can't wait to see them again, but i'm glad they are gonna get a break

Just got back home from 4 days of Pure Followill-ness. Almost too much, but it can never really be too much. After the "blah" Alabama concert on Thursday, we were a little discouraged about Nashville, but when that hot cocoa stand was rolled out for the freezing fans who've lined up since 6am, I immediately remembered why I love this band and for every outburst, there is always something wonderful that they throw into the mix and make me fall in love with them all over again. After 6 concerts and witnessing all sorts of organizational failures on the part of the venues, this was by far the best and most coherent and well-organized of all. From what I could see, all HAers got either barrier or 2nd/3rd rows--so GO HA!!! The crowd was pretty amazing, everyone around me was singing along to every song, dancing and being completely crazy. It was SO nice to see so much energy and love emanating from the audience--it visibly affected the band, and they put on a strong, focused performance. Was it their best? Possibly not, but it was one of the better concerts I've been to. I guess the only negative, is the unimaginative set list. Hearing Frontier City was nice, and I saw people crying in the audience when it came on, but it would've been nice to hear less OBTN songs and hear a wider variety from all 4 albums. But I suppose it's logical that they ended on a high OBTN note, since they were supporting that album. Overall, the energy level was very impressive. The venue was sold out, and no one was sitting down. People were dancing in the isles and it was lovely to see the Kings being accepted and loved by the local crowd (or not so local, since there were so many of us, visitors). Definitely the "awwww" moment came when Caleb said that their grandma was there, seeing her 1st KOL concert ever. It really was touching somehow. Another poignant moment for me was hearing Caleb said that he was in the Sommet Center only once before, when he was 16-17 years old, for a church conference, and it was then that they met up with Matt for the 1st time, after a lengthy break, and started talking about music and starting a band. And now, here they are, having sold out the venue as KOL. It kind of tugged on the heart strings. There is a lot of say and think about. I am sure others will have their impressions. Definitely a good end to an incredible year! PS What the heck am I gonna do now? That break better not last long!!!

Concert Review
Kings of Leon host triumphant hometown show at Sommet Published by Nicole Keiper on October 17, 2009 in Concert Reviews and Reviews . 11 Comments Tags: feature3, kings of leon, rock, sommet center. Kings of Leon's Caleb Followill at the Sommet Center (photo: Heather Byrd/The Tennessean)
CLICK THIS IMAGE to see a photo slide show from Kings of Leon's Sommet Center show (this photo of Caleb Followill: Heather Byrd/The Tennessean).
“We’ve been lookin’ forward to this show for a long time,” Kings of Leon singer Caleb Followill called from the Sommet Center stage a half-dozen or so songs into his band’s Friday night headlining set. “We’re home.”
The sold-out hometown crowd squealed in appreciation, and the four-piece family band proceeded, through a taut but triumphant collection of songs, to display clearly why Kings of Leon command stages like the Sommet’s at home now, too, after years of megastardom overseas and manageable popularity Stateside.
“Home” home — and not just America home — has had a particularly tricky relationship with the Middle Tennessee-based Kings during their rise; breaking big almost straight out of obscurity in an industry town full of scuffling musicians tends to bring out some sour grapes. And if you thought Caleb Followill hadn’t noticed said grapes, you’d be wrong.
“We take a lot of (expletive) from a lot of people in Nashville,” he said. “…I just hope that people who say those things about us, they know how hard we’ve worked, and how hard we still work.”
All that work was patently obvious at the Sommet Friday, too, as a fluid, expressive and impressively fine-tuned Kings of Leon stomped through a set that spanned from breakout 2003 debut Youth & Young Manhood up through the album that finally really launched them here, last year’s Only By the Night.
The fine-tuning is particularly evident on stage in the two Followills that seem to get the least attention: bassist Jared and guitarist Matthew. Matthew, who’s consistently been a tasteful secret weapon on record, on a stage this size lets squalls and squeals of Edge-inspired guitar take the fore. Jared, who’d barely touched his instrument when the Kings started touring, shows a smooth expressiveness that locks in when needed and pushes into melodic runs when it’d take the song a notch higher. Both, at this point, aren’t just capable players — they’re guys with distinct voices.
With all the charm in the garage-y strut of Manhood and the scruffy, mumblemouthed adrenaline in 2006’s Aha Shake Heartbreak, it was the songs from Night that really did drive the Kings’ arena-appropriateness home on Friday.
The band set the pace with the soaring guitar in “Closer,” the hip-sway-groove bassline of “Crawl” and drummer Nathan Followill’s intent tom pounding on “Be Somebody,” all those songs evoking the kind of fist-pumping, to-the-rafters energy that maybe, fair enough, wasn’t quite there when the band played the Ryman or Exit/In. And although Kings of Leon eschewed the kind of eye-grabbing arena tactics Metallica employed at the Sommet last month — eyebrow-searing pyro, a rainfall of black beach balls — the Followills captured attention and held it just the same, digging into a well-paced, stock-in-trade economical set.
Ultimately, the difference between stocking a room the size of the Municipal Auditorium and selling out the Sommet Center can be, in essence, one song. And the power of that one song for the Kings — Night’s Top 40 No. 1 “Use Somebody” — was particularly evident. A crowd that had stayed warmly engaged for the bulk of the set brightened noticeably during Night’s “Sex on Fire,” then exploded as the first notes of “Use Somebody” rang out in the encore.
“I hope it’s gonna make you notice,” Caleb Followill sang out, his voice now far more pointed and present than it was at hometown shows only a few years ago. And yeah, seems like they noticed.

Caleb telling the crowd how he hadn’t drank any that day because he wanted to be sober and give us all an awesome set. Then he turned around and said “but now I think it’s time to have a drink”. Haha.more pictures later. Sorry! My lunch break is over so I gotta get back to work.
