I would agree with most of the points made, and I think one advantage they have is knowing each other so well. They've mentioned in interview having a real feel for what each other is thinking when they are playing, almost psychic. Communication, especially musical communication is v. important in a band. And the desire each individual has to not be the one to fuck up. maybe.

I say this because it's my husbands favourite explanation for why anything he does is good. "Superior wang".

Its got to be Caleb's voice. That's the first thing you notice that stands them apart from everyone else. Only then do you start noticing all the other things.

^ hmmm. In the first instance, when hearing them, that's got to be it, Michelle. It's certainly what made me first sit up and take notice.

Good call. The first song I heard was "Closer" and I immediately stopped what I was doing and said "who the fuck is that?" Haven't stopped listening since.

I don't agree, that wasn't the first thing that caught my attention. It's one of the things that makes them truly great but the previous point is relative.
The way they can relate to people / how you can relate to them, their openness, the way they don't seem separated from their music, the close family connection, their little ball of fury, how they are four of the most special, gifted musicians to have appeared in quite a long long long time, their relationship to music, how they make exciting, interesting, smart, original music. The first one again and how they simply must be divine.

What makes them so good?
Hmmmmm, a whole lot of things, but of those that I can pin down, I'd say a nice combination of the following:
1. Musical Talent, especially Caleb's voice 2. Lyrically enlightening, intriguing, and talented 3. Their desire to constantly push their musical boundaries, their desire to sound different with every album 4. Humbleness from their family and upbringing 5. The strong connection that holds them together 6. Their relatability, basically how they're not some pampered no-talent pop stars 7. Their unique and damn fine looks (it had to be said)

Furthermore; they're mature, sophisticated songwriters (whatever the lyrical content may be referring to), they have a gorgeous straight-forward melodic style, they're quirky and unlike any other band.

^^ hahahaha!!!! Its got to be Caleb's voice. That's the first thing you notice that stands them apart from everyone else. Only then do you start noticing all the other things. Thats what did it for me!! After that I heard all the others and how well they play together....later I started to notice individual parts ie drums, bass and lead geetar and as time goes on I delve into the music deeper and deerper to hear different parts Ive never heard before. It doesnt hurt that they're not afraid to do whatever the fuck they want, thats huge appeal for me!!!
