The thing that confuses me recently with his lyrics is that he said with OBTN he wanted to get away from laying his heart out for all to see, to stop being so personal with the lyrics and to make stories instead. But to be honest i think his style of song writing before, with its ambiguous lines and word play was a better way to do that, it made you really have to wonder what or who he was talking about and you could interpret it your own way. With OBTN hes almost too clear and linear with his writing that it kinda takes the mystery away for me..thereby making it more revealing in a personal way Am i making any sense??

That makes total sense and I agree Mon-ster. I know what you mean, older stuff's much more twisty turny and sneaky....have to bear in mind he was in a different headspace with all the Vicodin and stuff, and what with being loved up too, changes things... Devil Song gives me the impression he might be going back to the old vibe...bit more tongue in cheek, bit more edgy... But then I think of 17...ain't got a Scooby-Doo what that's all about....hidden ship two sails away....

[.. But then I think of 17...ain't got a Scooby-Doo what that's all about....hidden ship two sails away.... Yeah but that was written for ASH, as much as the bells etc annoy me, i really like 17 because its his old style. And your right about the drugs and love affecting him..thats only natural, but i do hope he doesnt lose that way he can turn a phrase.

I read somewhere that he doesn't really know what some OBTN songs are about for sure. It seems his girlfriend hoped "sex on fire" was about her and she had no idea what "Revelry" was about. Well, unless he knows exactly what's about but don't want to upset her... So I think that maybe the songs are more "clear", but at the same time, less personal. I don't know if it make sense. Off course it's completely different when it comes to "Cold Desert", for exemple.

Yeah i think your right about the more clear less personal aspect flor. But even if the subject matter is less personal to him i think by the songs being "clearer" people will just presume hes talking about himself and not "telling stories" like he was wanting to.
God now i'm confusing myself!!! If i could find that interview where he said that it would help!!

God now i'm confusing myself!!! If i could find that interview where he said that it would help!! Ok, now I understand. People end up assuming the songs are real stories or personal experiencies, not just story telling like he wants it to be. Well, the thing that I admire the most about him is his honesty. It's interesting to know if a song comes from a real experience or not, but in the end most of the songs he writes always bring this fresh honesty and to me, in the end, that's what make them so appealing - being personal experiences or not. Sometimes I'm listening to one of KOL songs and I'm like: no way he said that! hahaha

Exactly And thats why i dont want him to feel like he has to change his lyrical style!!! I'm actually anxious for the new album. I want to know if he will keep trying this "new style" of writing or even come up with something new - because that's another thing that I love about them: they are always changing! No room for boredom! Well, I think both styles are great as long as he continue writing without censuring himself - too much, at least.

yippie, finally... thanks rach, have some karma the last weeks sharing the love hasn't been as much fun as it used to be, no offence to anyone btw, but it's been hard catching up, mostly didn't even bother to go through the oozes of pages about our boy.

Hey Cin As much as we all know the passion Our Boy inspires, I just like it a little more succinct, that's all no biggie!
