Please please please boys....keep it bare and raw like this!! Don't let whoever produced your last album TOUCH this song!!! I'm so excited now....can I get an AMEN? ? Sorry, but this makes no sense to me. Correct me if i'm wrong, but didn't one of the OBTN producers cowrite/co-produce songs on Y&YM and ASH, and the other OBTN producer serve as engineer on ASH? I think people place way too much blame/credit for OBTN's sound on Angelo and Jacquire. Truth of the matter is that OBTN came out sounding exactly like the Kings wanted it to. They've admitted as much in multiple interviews ....

I've heard 2 crappily recorded versions of it, and so far I don't see what the big deal is. I'm not overly impressed. I'll make my final judgement when I hear a decently recorded version. Smite away.

Also Cass I agree with you!!! this song's rawness reminds me of a love child spawned from Trani and In my opinion) Cold Desert.

Ok, I'm going to say what I really think. I don't see why anyone should even think of smiting you Brad/LensCreep unless they object to common sense. I'm a bit surprised this was even aired at any gigs yet as it seems so unfinished, and I am somewhat bemused by the level of excitement in this thread which does seem high even by HA standards. I am really interested to see what happens with this - I'm partial to a bit of blues myself like many here. It is so unfinished though!! I'd be disappointed if it wasn't worked up quite a bit both lyrically and structurally. I'd also be interested to know what brought this on since they have a tendency to be influenced by what they listen to. So - to me it's something but could equally be nothing.

I guess to me personally it's such a big deal because it's the most raw that they have sounded in a while. It's a sound they have not done before but they add their own umph to it making it even more gritty and sexy because of the newness of it all. I do hope they add to it later on and record it in the studio, but for right now this is enough to tide me over until their next album. I just feel the song is like a breath of fresh air in comparison to SOF or Use Somebody. Also the song is just reminiscent of the days of live recordings some artists did at gigs, the jamming and improve that went on was just amazing, it's like your watching a baby being made or form (in a none gross way) and, frankly it's an amazing song.

Another thing is that we have no reason to believe that if this song made the album (and not a b-side) that the rest of the album would sound like this. These new singles got them famous and from what I gather they don't seem like they are going to pull a John Mayer on us and go full out or mostly blues.

You do have a point, it does seem a bit wierd they've played a whole 5 minute version already. I know in the past On Call was sampled live in 06 but just as an intro? I'm so happy with it. I do think it's set the bar though, so hopefully if the next album isn't like this people won't be too disappointed. Just the whole vibe of it makes me so happy though, even if it doesn't make a record this recording is good quality

Hey thanks for replying cos I can relate to almost all of your reasons for you finding it such a big deal. Clearly though I'm much less excited, and that's because there's a LONG way to go yet before anything is on an album. In truth it could also be because I am very, very old

Who says this song's gotta make it to the album or that this is gonna be the sound for the new album? Can't we just be happy that they played another song we've never heard before...?

I really don't think anyone should get their hopes up either. I think it's being built up a bit too much, everyone's saying OH YES A BLUES ALBUM! but really, we have no idea! It's one thing to appreciate the song for what it is, a breath of fresh air for right now, and another to rely on it as insight into the future.
Cause if the album doesn't come out all bluesy & have the exact feel as that song, like everyone is saying it will, you know there is gonna be a huge wave of blame on the Kings, when really it was all of us being blinded by this and basing our expecations on it.

Thanks ticboo. I probably should clarify my position a bit further. My objection is more to the quality of sound than to the sound itself, if that makes any sense to anyone. I fully support them going with a more bluesy sound if they choose to do so. I have a lot of blues recordings I listen to regularly. I admit I haven't heard all of the versions of this song that are currently available, but I didn't care for the ones I heard so far. In the version or two that I have heard, Jared and Nathan couldn't be heard at all, and it sounded like Caleb was singing while Matt was tuning his guitar. As mentioned, I may simply have not heard the best version of this song yet, which is why I stated I'd wait for the recorded/album version. I hope I don't hear another song off of their next album before it's released. It was somewhat of a letdown with the last album, as at least have a dozen songs were posted here prior to its release. I'd rather wait months for the album version than listen to crappy versions recorded on cell phones earlier. Personal preference. I may not frequent this site as much if that happens again. I remember when I bought Youth and Young Manhood and had not heard a single note from it until I placed it in my cd player and listened to the entire recording for the first time. That was a magical moment that I'd like to enjoy again sometime.

i am also very excited about this new "devil song" but to support my HAers and their over-enthused ways, i think the excitement comes from the mere fact that KOL would do something like this at a concert, much less MULTIPLE concerts!
they're very known for sticking to the set-list, no deviations, no surprises.
that's what excites me- the fact that all this touring is making them so comfortable on stage and allowing them to express these musical urges...

Didnt nathan say that they were going to go in a gospel direction? This is definitely that.
I fucking love the yelps he does in the newcastle version. Could use a more pumping chorus tho, me thinks.
Why do they keep playing this if its just a fluke of a song? Huh??
