Yup. They left the side and back covers off for the rest of the festival, as well as the green banner across the top and the bits of roof that came off.
If you watch any of the White Lies vids that are about you should be able to see the 'nakeyness' of the stage if I remember rightly from the screens...

Twas a bit hairy for a while, but I really felt for those left camping because we were in the hotel by that night. And because everyone was leaving at the same time, it took us an hour and a half to get out of the car park with thousands of utterly wasted half naked revellers trying to get back home in dusty gales...mad times.

Nightmare Alan, didn't know that Hope Ron gets back OK... Thought I'd post these before and after pics so you could get an idea of what the wind did to the stage... Thursday morning... Saturday morning... Not just "a bit of wind" eh? ron is grand. though i think he regretted not having a sleeping bag the night of the storm. did you see the second stage after the storm without the covering? i thought it was amazing....it looked like something out of a sci-fi movie

Hey guys, good to be home. Absolutely gutted about missing out on kol but not going to dwell on it for too much longer. Its only depressing me. Cant complain about the organizers cancelling Friday, clearly wasnt safe. It pisses me off though that Tom Tom Club even came on stage. Feels like those bastards stole something from me!! The big screen had kol to come on next so what went on behind the scenes is all a bit We were saying at the time, it looked like they were setting up 2 sets of instruments maybe to get back on schedule, wishful thinking! Then having the techs running around the stage with hard hats on, it was weirder then that they even aloud TTC on. Must be well insured by their manager The tent was flat when I got back but I loaded it up with big rocks that evening so in didnt blow away. Slept on the lie-low and was wrapped in a beach towel. I was also getting smothered by the tent at the same time. Was well hammered so it was all great craic. In fairness to the 15 euro dunnes stores tent. she went back up the next morning even with the broken poles. Next morning got talking to a guy selling tshirts outside lidl, bastard told us kol had been confirmed to play that evening. He seemed like a bullshitter, but even before talking to him I was expecting them to play Saturday. Obviously that didnt happen, so it was a repeat of the friday disappointment when we checked at the info place. Other than the Friday drama Benicassim was a huge success. The people, the facilities, the music was great. Beach was brilliant for breaking up the day, if I had to stay at the campsite all day I would melt. The water park was good fun too.

(cn't really remember the 80's but I know I had a good time.) Ron - it is sucky the way things turned out, but glad you're ok and you enjoyed the rest or your time there. That video explains it all.

^^^^ Only just googled TTC after reading your post. I just thought they were some new indie band brave/stupid enough to go out under that stage looking to make a name for themselves. Didnt realise they were formed by the the Talking Heads people. I love that Psycho Killer song Maybe they didnt deserve the obscenities I was shouting at them between songs

Cheers!!! They sounded fine but the fact the whole crowd was anticipating kol at that time made for a very hostile reception for them. It was never going to pretty. It was funny because everything that was thrown at them came flying back in the peoples faces cause the wind was so strong. haha

Tom Tom Club - Talking Heads - isn't that Tina Weymouth? Didn't she do TTC? ( Weymouth?) I really should go wikipedia this instead of expecting HAers to remember the 80's for me...SO LAZY!
(unless of course Ron you've got nothing better to do than spill?) <-- ignore that!! Nope I'm gonna wiki - i hate not remembering stuff
I bet they might have been worth listening to.

Ya wiki says you're right. Your recollection of the 80's is spot on. Not too sure how many songs they even got to play. They got pulled fairly sharpish.

Sunday evening we walked passed the area where fire was. Was only then I realised how big it must have been. Good job the wind wast blowing the flames across the road. Dont think the factor 25 could stop the vips toasting Seriously though, with the clowns climbing the tower at Oasis, the fire, the electrical lines being battered by flying gazebos and the shaky stages. Lucky nothing serious happened. (Not that a cancelled kol gig isnt serious ) Baring a shit line up id say ill be back next year, apartment with A/C so im not up a 8am though. Thats no time to be waking up on holidays!!!

Yeah the Saturday we had to park way down the road as we didn't get there till about 9, so we walked through the fields where the fire had been, really close to that Bonterra campsite!
You're damn right, we're already planning our trip next year, drop the kids off with the grannies and it's off to the sun we gooooo!! The tower stuff was mad, people hanging off like monkeybars - got some pics on me facebook, eejits.

Snow storm next year I had the Happy Gilmore image of the tv tower falling when I saw those people up there. Not to wish them any harm but those bastards would have deserved anything they got if it fell

Cant say I noticed the fences changing. They took alot of them down so they wouldnt blow down on the Friday. First night we didnt even realise there was a pit, not even sure if it was there the first night, prob was. We kept pushing forward for kol until we were shocked to find a barrier. Some guy told us to just walk over to the far right for the pit. Easiest pit ive ever strolled into.....and back out 2 hours later....grrrr!!!
