My day begins with leaving work in Philly around 11am.... to where i have to go pick my ex-girlfriends car up (but were still very good friends) so i can get to new york. Well i get there around 12 and find out that there is a boot on the car due to her not paying some ticket she got or something. NOT A GOOD START!!! so in a frantic i catch a cab and get home and ask my dad to drive me to the bus station... my goal was to be in line by 3pm, not looking good.... then my dad says just take my car... RELEIF! I was there and in line by 245... about 10th.... and at 5pm there were 12 hahaha... And it was FREEZING, alls i had on was a thin adidas jacket on, feet were numb, hands were numb and ears were numb.... but thats what you gotta do to MAKE SURE you get where i was at...
7pm they open the doors and people are rushing to get where ever we got to go, im not sure where to go but im just following and after this lady couldnt strap my wristband on for what seems like 10 minutes (probably 10 seconds)... and its off to the races... sorry ladies but im pretty fast... if i wasnt the first one to touch the rail i was in the top 3! DEAD CENTER FRONT ROW ON THE RAIL FOR KOL's FIRST HEADLINING GIG AT THE GARDEN, ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
The whigs came on at 8 and probably got their greatest feedback to date from what i seen. I give credit to many people at this show seem them before at other shows. I acually like the whigs, and that song "O.K. Alright" is a really good live tune. If you can't dance to that then you don't have a pulse.
Whigs done, we all know whats coming next... lights down, boys come walking on and into "Crawl", which in my opinion is the perfect opener in this kind of venue.... start off with a bang... i like "closer", but it fits in much better around song 5 like last night. Caleb is all over the place from the beginning giving the crowd more then it seemed to ever before... now i think he's come a long way anyways on this tour compared to the previous ones, but he was the best I've ever seen him last night.
I'm not going to go into every song, but I'll pick out my favorite moments... "Closer" was really good, i liked the lighting too... the all blue gave it a very dark feel. Before "Fans" was where Caleb first referenced how excited they were to be playing at the Garden. Saying "We couldn't of done this without you guys, so this one's for you"... and also asked us all to sing along to the last part of the song. I like "revelry" BUT i thought this easily could have been subsituted for "i want you" by now, but ill take it for what it is. "Wasted Time" was one of the best moments for me. I was thinking of a word to describ this song last night... and i came up with "vicious". It was just dirty good if there was such a thing. Great pick to start playing off YY&M on this mini leg of the tour! Great to also finally hear "Notion"... and the crowd (which i will get to shortly) was really into this one. Really nailed it just like i thought they would, actually surprised they didnt play this one much eariler in the tour. Not a big fan of "Trani" which is like a mortal sin around here, haha, but it was the best version I've ever heard... which is saying a lot form me .
Into the encore... Nathan comes out and tips his beer to the crowd from behind his drumset and the proceeds to down it in true rock and roll style and then tosses it behind him, sits down and starts the best up for knocked up... i think he may of hit someone or something when he did this because immediatly the roadie came and was talking to him and i seen him trying to tell Matthew who couldnt really hear him say something like "i threw my beer behind me and ____" but it wasn't too good, but didn't matter too much cause the encore was as awesome as ever. Before "Manhattan" again Caleb thanked us all... and all through the show saying things like "we did it" and how awesome it was to finally be here... all which were matched with roof raising applauses. "Charmer" and "Black Thumbnail" really just rocked and at the end Caleb scared the shit out of me when he kicked his microphone right infront of me... but it was a pure rockstar move that the whole Garden ate up. Nate, who im pretty sure just waves from behind his kit came out and joined Matt and Caleb in waving goodbye for about 30 seconds... Jared was right off the stage. Something was up with him all night, i think it was something wasnt right with the sound... i heard nerves but the kept ajusting his amp and everything... overall he just didnt seem very happy with his sound.
The Garden crowd was on their feet from the opening snare drum beat of "Crawl" to the band faded into the dressing room at the end. A tremendous crowd! A lot has to do with people coming from all over the world.... before they came out for the encore "OHHH LAYYY OOOO LAY O LAY O LAY" was chanted.... definatly a European thing... so that shows you the legnths people came for this show. Here goes some pics... and the last one shows the very crowd i was talking about....
