Maybe they all had an amazing time then met the boys afterwards and got kidnapped in their tour bus where they will have to spend the next year partying with the boys but are sworn to secrecy about what actually happens on there. We'll never get a review!

Ok I don't have a whole lot of time right now, but the show was amazing!!! THEY PLAYED TRANI!! I was so excited about that, lol. I've seen this performed countless times on youtube or whatever but nothing compared to hearing it live. WOW. As typical Caleb style, he didn't talk a WHOLE lot, but he did say that they had just fished a long break (especially for them!) and he said they were feeling a little self-conscious (lol). Then he said something about needing us to help them not feel that way. Ummm he also said it was cool to be there with us on such an important day...and kept saying how fun it was being there. Maybe I was imagining things, but Caleb seemed extra "campy" and energetic. His voice sounded amazing, and he just seemed in great spirits.
The crowd was GREAT, everyone made a lot of noise and had a blast. The Palace is breathtaking.. it was FREEZING outside so I'll be interested to see if anyone actually waited around & got to meet them afterwards. OK that's all I can think of to say for now, but I'll add more later as things come to me!

I'm glad you got to see Trani. Isn't is just the most amazing song live. Did they play mainly OBTN songs or did they mix it up? How was the crowd? Mainly SOF fans or a mixture? What did they start with? What were they wearing?
So many questions! Just trying to help you out.....

Well, I am the absolute worst at trying to remember a set list or what songs came when, but that being said, the show last night was VERY nice. I will admit that my favorite records, in order, are YAYM, ASH, BOTT, and then OBTN...so i was very happy when they opened up with the older songs...which of course i cannot remember exactly which ones or in which order, but Taper Jean Girl was in there...Molly's Chambers...we also got Four Kicks, Slow Night So Long (which MAY have been the opener?)...Milk...The Bucket...Razz...and...Trani...awesome. The older songs had a different "feel" to them last night, too. The tempo was slowed down a bit on several of them, and they were just had more punch, if that makes any sense...they were slower, but harder...it was kind of neat....shows that they have been working and tinkering around with their sound a bit, even on the older songs. We also had Knocked Up, Charmer, Black Thumbnail, My Party, Fans, and On Call Closer, Crawl, Sex on Fire, Use Somebody, Manhattan, Revelry, Notion, and Cold Desert... The crowd was definitely very vocal, even if they weren't as energetic as they could have been (Columbus 2007 set the bar pretty high on that, though...so maybe my standards aren't exactly fair ).... They definitely seemed to respond more to the newer stuff...Sex on Fire got a HUGE cheer...and there was a couple in front of us, that after they played Trani and then went out for a smoke, looked at each other and said, "What song was that? I've never heard that one."...so...it is what it is, I guess. I'm just happy that they have built up the following, even if I do like the older songs better. They are growing as a band and finding out who THEY want to be, and I fully expect at some point we will see sort of a mixture of old and new...but it was nice to see the big "SOLD OUT" on the marquee last night. I was at the show at Headliners in Louisville in 2007, and it was fantastic...a small but very enthusiastic crowd...so it is just fantastic to see them go from there to selling out the Palace, which is one of my VERY favorite places to see a show. Overall, I went in to last night expecting a very heavy dose of OBTN, a sprinkle of BOTT, and just a smidgen of the older songs, but the smidgen turned out to be more of a sprinkle. lol...so i was happy. Plus, my wife did not run off on the tour bus, so that is always a positive. I felt like they DID enjoy being there (except for Nathan, who seems to show almost NO emotion at ANY time...lol...just drumming and blowing bubbles...but hey...we drummers are a strange bunch)...Caleb was more talky than I've seen him in the past, and I did feel like they were less "cocky"...they did seem to enjoy the crowd, and they worked through the few kinks they did have with relative ease (Caleb noted that it was their first show in 2 weeks, which was a long break for them...and then also noted it was also the first show in 2 weeks for the road crew after a small mishap...). Overall, I came away very pleased with the show and excited about where this band is going. Sorry I can't remember the set list in order, but I think i did cover all of the songs that we heard, but I hope that helps out better than the poorly written review on the Courier-Journal web site...wow.

Yes, the show was amazing (but then again, aren’t all KOL shows amazing?). hehe. I sadly had rather crappy seats so I wasn’t able to get a lot of pictures of than the few I got during the encore when I ran down to the front. If I had known that the security would have been that lax I would have went to the front (well about four rows back in the middle) at the beginning of their set! Oh and as chairlover said, they did talk about being self-conscious after being on break for two weeks (which Caleb joked and said that was a long time for them).
There did seem to be a good crowd, though I think the majority of them were “Sex on Fire” fans because that’s when I noticed the crowd really come to life. I watch as the boys played “Trani” and hardly ANYONE knew the lyrics. Pissed me off! Here are these “fans” that don’t know a single word and get the better seats, where fans that know every single word get stuck with the crappy seats. Ugh.
I managed to get Nathan’s set list. They really mixed things up and it made me super happy to hear them bring back “Wasted Time”. I’ve missed that song. They also played “Notion” which was the first time I heard them play it live. Anyway, here’s the set list.
Louisville-KY 1-20-09 *Slow Night, So Long *Taper Jean Girl *My Party *Razz *Molly’s Chambers *Fans *Revelry *Milk *Crawl *Four Kicks *Wasted Time *Closer *Sex on Fire *The Bucket *Notion *One Call *Use Somebody *Cold Desert *Trani
Encore *Knocked Up *Manhattan *Charmer *Black Thumbnail
Here are the few pictures I managed to get, sorry they’re not that great.
It was beyond freezing outside after the show, but I stayed…like always. Haha. Met up with Savanna and we chatted as we waited for them to come out. Which by the way, the cab driver that was there waiting was so nice! I wanted to give that big guy a hug. There were about 8 or 9 of us waiting outside and he just got out of the cab and moseyed on up to one of their people and asked if the Kings had already left and to tell them to come out and sign/take pictures for these few people waiting outside for them. Haha. The guy told the cab driver that the Kings were still inside in a meeting or something. So, about 10 minutes later sweet little Caleb came walking out. Bless his heart. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. I just adore those Followill boys. They truly are sweethearts! Anyway, here’s my pictures with Caleb and Jared. Nathan got on the bus before I could speak/get a picture with him and Matt never did come out, unless he was on the bus already the whole time. Who knows. Haha.
Sorry I didn’t have much of a review.

SetlistSlow Night So Long Taper Jean Girl Molly's Chambers Razz Wasted Time My Party On Call Charmer Revelry Notion SOF Use Somebody TRANI Milk Cold Desert Closer Crawl Fans Four Kicks EncoreKnocked Up ?? (I can't remember which ones, I'm thinking maybe Charmer and Trani?) My Black Thumbnail Okay! So. I was in the second row of the pit, VERY close to the stage, and I had a really amazing view (although Caleb blocked Nathan). I got a couple looks from Matthew, evil glares from Jared, and a 5-second sex stare from Caleb (hahah. but seriously, I about died). Luckily I was standing next to some girls who were really rocking out and they seemed to know some of the older stuff. Everyone in the pit was dancing and cheering, and I couldn't really gage the rest of the crowd from where I was, but every time I turned around it was a pretty amazing sight. A full house! The sound was AWESOME, I thought it sounded really great. Even though they've had a break, they were really in top form and put on a pretty good performance, except for Jared and Matthew kept turning away from the crowd (but they always do that). And Caleb said that he appreciates all that we've done for them, which I was very very happy to hear. He seemed in pretty good spirits, and made a couple jokes/silly faces. I couldn't have been more happy with the setlist also! Once Trani started and I screamed until my lungs hurt, I couldn't believe it. At the end, Nathan threw his drumstick in the air, and all the boys waved at everyone, with Nathan giving us a thumbs-up, and left the stage. All in all, it was a pretty incredible experience and it couldn't have been more perfect for my first show. Oh and I met Michelle, which was really great because she is so sweet and we suffered in the cold together I'll be posting my pics and stories in the Meeting KOL part. My pictures from the actual show are TERRIBLE because I was using the worst camera, and I got a crappy 6-second video with no sound! But I'll still post them if anyone wants to see them. The end Oh and I got one of Caleb's guitar picks. Woot!
