Here's where my new fan-ness comes out ...i just found out that there are 2 versions of California Waiting! Before i only knew the newer version, but i just discovered the older one,the "studio" one as itunes calls it...and i love this one way more!! I also noticed when i watched the Documentary they played the old version a little,it sounded different but i didnt think much about it. Which one do you guys like better?

Yeah HRN version is better as is the HRN version of Wasted Time! There's 2 versions of Wasted Time too!?!? I thought they were the same! *goes back to listen again* EDIT; Ok i just listened to both of them and i can't tell much of a difference, but i have the YAYM version. I know,i really need to buy the actual cd's instead of buying individual songs off iTunes I do have the entirety of OBTN and YAYM though

yeah the HRN version of wasted time is so much better than the LP version! they're pretty much the same but the HRN version is more tight and clean...goooooooddd, but i'm surprised...i would have thought the EP version would have been rougher

The ep version of Wasted Time is the bestest! as for the ep version of Cali, i dunno, never was one of my fav songs soooo but still I'd have to say the album version cause i like the little touches on it. Also, the other one is bit too soppy for me, i like this one cause it's pissed off! Rahhh

prefer both YAYM versions of cali and wasted time...cali cause you can hear caleb giggle, and wasted time for the way he says 'justawhatasaw'

I am so glad you made this thread, because before I had no one to gush my feelings about this amazing song to! I've always loved the EP version of California Waiting just a little bit more than the YAYM version. I actually bought the Holy Roller Novocaine EP before I ever had YAYM, so it was the only version I knew at one time. The boys re-recorded Wasted Time and California Waiting for YAYM, they weren't happy with the way they turned out and didn't want them on YAYM sounding like that. I think they thought the songs didn't sound "rocking" enough, if you get what I mean. I can see their point; to me, I think the YAYM version of California Waiting is an improvement musically. They changed the riff at the beginning, added the cowbell and some rougher vocals, and it goes with the flow of the rest of the album. They did manage to get a better feel for the song. However! I will always love the EP version just a little bit more because as a virgin to KOL's older stuff, I picked up the EP and upon hearing California Waiting for the first time, it immediately hit me as something special. I just love Caleb's tender voice, he sounds so young and the song seems to suit being sung gently rather than roughly. Just the first line, that lovely timid but eager sound of his voice singing "Little Mona Lisa laying by my side..." it just gives me chills! The beginning riff is also a lot lighter and pleasing to hear too. The whole song just feels innocent and glorious! So of course I don't dislike the YAYM version, it sits very well in the album and remains my favourite song on it. But the EP version will always have that little extra sparkle for me In fact, I'm gonna put it on right now! xxx

When I first heard California Waiting(The EP version)I fell in love with it so I bought YAYM and when I listened to it I was like "HEY!...This isnt the one I first heard!" So then I looked around somemore and found out that is was on the EP so I downloaded it.

Aww Razz i'm so glad i inspired you to talk about this song and listen to it! For me most of the reason why i like this song is because of the lyrics. Especially the part "by giving in what am i giving up,am i losing way too much?" and "While you're tryin' to save me, Can't I get back my lonely life?" I gotta listen to this again now too!

God I'm having one of those totally psychedelic spiritual moments here. I LOVE KOL! I'm so glad I know them. Thank you to whatever divine spirit made me turn on the tv as a 14 year old kid and discover them xxx

Ahh, one of my top KOL songs. I really can't choose: the YAYM version has that awesome riff in the start of the song and a part of me prefers Caleb's voice rough and raw. But the HRN version is almost angelic...it hints at the soaring vocals he's unveiled with OBTN. My favorite part is in the middle just after "Every little thing is gonna be just right" when the music stops for that little bit. Beautiful.
Long story short, I can't choose. *shrugs*
BTW, for all you Kings veterans, why are there so many versions of HRN? i bought the EP version on ebay by accident and was a bit gutted when i realized that Wicker Chair, Talihina and Holy Roller weren't there.
Come to think of it, both Molly's Chambers Eps have those cherries on it too! Confusing!

It gives me a feeling, not just your typical "hey this song rocks" feeling but more like a "oh my God the world could crumble under my feet but as long as i am listening to this, its all good" feeling LOL There arent even words sometimes, for how i feel when i listen to KOL. It's beyond music.

It's beyond music. That just sounds like my life summed up in a paragraph Music is the most important thing in my life. I've had a lot of crap with my family, friends and partners, and even though everyone seems to leave me behind, music's the one thing that stays with me through everything. That's why I love it so much; you don't have to speak to convey your feelings, and you don't have to try to explain anything to yourself because there's always a song out there somewhere that has you down to a t. My dad's a musician but he left before I was old enough to remember him, and although I'm bitter, he left me the amazing gift of music! I just understand it; I can play it, sing it, hear it and manipulate it like I was born to do it. That's why I'm determined to make a career in music. I wanna achieve the dream for myself and my dad, even though he probably won't be there to see it happen. KOL are one of the greatest treasures of my life! I'm so happy they're here. ...and I'm sorry, that was rather personal and essay-ish and probably boring and slightly pedantic, right? Sorry bout that. Just had to gush that out there. xxx

Talihina's not supposed to be on it, that's on What I Saw. I prefer the EP version of both CW & WT, I ADORE the EP version of WT, but I'm going through a bit of thing for that song right now. I am also going to go listen to it.
