I get what you're saying about them telling the same old stories, but I think that the reason I can see through that is because a. the interviewers all want to talk about the same thing and b. their home videos showed a different side of the band and I think the fac tthat they put them out is really impressive. They didn't have to do that but they did and they showed them just being normal and being with their family and doing things that keep them grounded.
I agree with you on a lotof points but I'm wondering who is the band you fell in love with? They are still the same guys and it isn't their fault that they cut their hair and people started to become interested in them. You liked them when you didn't know anything about them and that's obvious. Maybe you should just listen to the music and skip the interviews and see where that takes you.

Anyhoo, I think it is sad (not pathetic) that the guys drink so much or that they feel they need to do this but to be honest they are still very young and this kinda behaviour is very typical of guys their age. Exactly especially considering Nathan didn't take his first drink until he was 21. I think their drug/alcohol use hasn't negatively affected their music. However I think their need to feel accepted in America has negatively affected their music.

Does anyone have a copy of the article scanned? I'm in Australia and pretty sure we don't get that magazine. I'm so intrigued by what you're all saying, I wouldn't mind having a read myself so I can make my own opinion of it all.

I have to agree with a lot of what amycakes says. The interviews get repetitive and they (with the exception of Nathan) are really caught up in a facade. However, I am not a fan to judge their character. I just listen to the music now because if I pay attention to the other stuff I might become disappointed. They have never wronged me and I have great stories about/with this band so I can't hate them or what they have become.
I would love to hear an interview with them where they talk about the writing process, the recording process, touring life... Basically about the MUSIC, not the backstory. Even though the backstory played a large part in their early stuff I don't feel like it does anymore.

I thought this journalist was atrocious. Yes they got some juicy stuff, but kept on using the same bull over and over again. It would have been an even better article if they mentioned some positive stuff about the other band members - not just Nathan. I found it a really chaotic article to be honest.
On a positive note, there were some cool parts to it. I like how Matthew admitted to having standards, haha.

iv read amy's post and i agree with alot of it, im not sure that nathan is that different from the others though i hated him in the hotel mtv thingy calling those girls whores it was horrible. maybe the bad stuff gets played up by reporters a bit but at the moment they are coming across as arseholes. i dont see how the girlfriends/fiancee's put up with the drinking/fighting etc which is part of what makes me think it gets played up loads but thats only my feeling. i agree with blackjeans that they have kind of missed alot of "normal" life because of all the touring especially jared being the youngest he pretty much skipped from 15 straight to his early twenties which must be weird. i dunno i doubt we are alone in being dissapointed by music journo's id imagine coldplay/razorlight/strokes whoever else's fans have the same problem of repetitive interviews.

I have to say i respect everyones opinions on this thread, I thought the Q article was quite good but really thinking about it, the front cover suggests a completely different article from what we got, i thought possibly we were going to get how theyve achieved theyre success over the years, and how theyve cracked america but instead it was just a kind of we got drunk.....had a fight.....everyone cant stand caleb when he's drunk......nathan had an argument with his girlf.......caleb had an argument with his girlf.........calebs insecure........blah blah it is stuff we have heard over and over but i cant help thinking that they put a lot of it out there to try and keep that whole rock n roll facade going. On the other hand some of the blame(not sure if thats the right word) has to go to the journalist, he should have done his research a bit more and tried to come up with a different angle, something with a bit more substance. Althouhg as black jeans quite rightly said though a lot of the newer fans dont know about this side to them so i suppose theyre damned if they do and damned if they dont

i agree with you in alot points amy! though i thought the article in Q mag was actually fab, because it's different from you get to read normally about other bands. the kings are the first band (at least i don't any other band like them) who actually talk about their private lives and whats happening around them. i agree that they talk about that quite alot, so no need to repeat it over and over boys since i play the guitar myself i'm reading a guitar magazine called 'gitarre und bass' (guitar and bass ) and there was a really cool interview with matt in there about his equipment, recording in the studio and everything ...well...RELEVANT! i was soooo happy about that article cause it was actually very very very interesting :)i think i read it 100 times now the interviewer even says that matt seemed very happy to be interviewed about his work as a guitar player i thought about translating it for you guys, cause to me it was one of the best interviews, but i wasn't sure if you actually wanted to read something about his effects and other technical things. so let me know if anyone is interested in it! and hey, it's an interview with matt only!!! so all in all i'm always very happy when i get to read an article thats not about the famous things like drugs, girlfriends and their religious childhood.

Actually Amy you aren't the only one who is frustrated with their alcoholism. I feel very sorry for them. They've got a life many would dream of, yet they (Caleb particularly) piss it away with drink. I know it runs in the family so they are more likely to have these issues. I can help but think about how miserable it must be to be in a relationship with these guys. Caleb's pounding drinks at the bar after a fight with Lily and Nathan makes Jessie cry. I still love the band. Seeing them live is truly awesome. But I don't think they are happy people and I hope the ones that need to get sober are able to do so...and soon. Perhaps they should spend a bit of time off the road and get a real life.

I can help but think about how miserable it must be to be in a relationship with these guys. yeah i thought so too...they're hot and everything but i wouldn't wanna miss it to have your sweetheart around you everyday...and then i wouldn't like it to see/hear/read that thousands of other girls are 'in love' with your boyfriend

Amy, I agree with a lot of what you said. It does get very boring hearing all the drugs and sex shit in interviews, unfortunately we live in a society that is obsessed with sleaze and shocking gossip and people love that stuff. The boys must get sick of it too, but if they continue to answer the same old questions over and over without complaining or refusing to, then people are naturally going to think that they don't mind discussing their past.
I have heard Caleb and Nathan skirt around these questions and answer with something funny or sarcastic, so I think that tells us they ARE fed up of the same old, same old. They want to be respected for their music, not for how many girls they've slept with or how many different kinds of drugs they've taken.
It's sad. And it's also a very vicious circle. Everyone and everything comes out of the woodwork when a band hits the "big time". KOL are big news right now anyway, with the whole "tour in jeopardy" shit, so naturally people are wanting to dig deeper. The pressures of fame and all that.
I do agree that Caleb needs to get a handle on his problem, if he needs to be wasted before he can go on stage, then he clearly doesn't believe that he can perform without it. That saddens me, because he's one of the most enigmatic front-men in music.

I have a very, very dear friend who's just like Caleb: a very sweet, intelligent and funny person when sober, but when he drinks he doesn't know when to quit and he becomes a complete asshole. Needless to say, a lot of us don't hang around him as much as we used to because it becomes embarassing after a while. You just sit there and cringe waiting for him to go off.
I really, really pray that Caleb quits this "Rooster" shit before he completely alienates everyone around him.

I"m also getting fed-up hearing about their drinking ,I know they are not the only band to drink and fight, but when its a band you love, ,it harder to understand, i suppose it would be even harder if it was due to drugs, but deep down I dont think Caleb is a dick every time he gets drunk( just 99 % of the time). And if he was that bad , do you think lily would still be with him...In a interview ( cant remember which one) caleb said that rooster doesnt appear much now.....
