how much percent of each album sale, the band usually gets money wise.(obviously it depends on a lot of factors, but a rough estimate?)
and the same for each gig, how much percent of the ticket sales do bands get?

it depends what kind of deal you sign i know most actors managers/agents get 15-20% of the actors pay but again it depends what u sign and if you sign with someone dodgy they can take you to the cleaners i guess its something similar with musicians. then u gotta factor in the other people involved in making a record and organising a tour depending on the artist and the label they are signed to i would guess they take home somewhere between 30-45% of the total profits.

Even if caleb only gets 30-45% of cd sales and gig sales, he would be rich surely, In england they usually play in front of around 6,000 at a price around the £20 mark. That equals 120,000, if you divide that by 30% that equals 36,000 per gig they do, and they comment that they only book like 2 weeks in the whole year off while the rest of the time they are touring.

A band at KOL's level would usually get about 20-22% of gig ticket sales after their costs. Merchandise sales on tour should account for a huge profit. Plus festival headline fees are really high - ten years ago it was £100,000 to headline Reading, so you can imagine. As well as profit from physical CD sales the band will make a fortune from publishing royalties as they write all their own stuff. So basically....Kings Of Leon ain't wantin' for much!

When they are on tour and play actual KOL gigs they don't get as much cause a lot of the money goes to the roadies and they pay for a lot stuff. Remember they are playing in different cities so a lot of money for each city is spent..that's why a lot of bands have tour dates close together..the longer your on the road the more money you have to spend.Merchandise is where they make a killer during tours and appearances at Festivals is where they also make money but again they still have to pay their roadies and managers..etc! From what I've heard album sales isn't where they actually make their money..they DO get a lot of money but again the money is spread around. A mate of mine used to work for a record label in London and radio play is where artists make the most money!! Royalties are the reason why a lot of one artists are rich until their dying day. I'm not sure how much radio play KOL get but every time their song is played they get paid for it. and since the guys write their own songs they are the only ones who receive the money. Elvis may be dead but his family are getting over $20 mil a year because of royalties.

As i worked out ealier, if they get around 36k a gig, that is still a hell of a lot of money surely, even if you do have to pay the roadies? They will not be getting the biggest share either. I would say from that 36k or around about, each kol member should at very least get 1k a gig. Which is still a lot, as they do a lot of gigs all over the world, and cd sales, radio play, and merchandise.

i was always curious as to how they split up the money. surely they all get a equal portion, split into 4. but i guess.. if you were in the mood.. you could argue that caleb should get more seeing as he writes most of the lyrics.
but im not arguing that haha seeing as they all work so very very hard. that was a pointless thread sorry continue on without me

Yeah but I imagine it would be £36k, minus expenses such as accommodation every night they are on the road, the venue will take a cut, roadies, they have got to eat and drink, they have agents, they have a manager and there will be other costs too. Then the remainder divided by the 4 band members. Basically, they won't exactly be paupers but they won't be multi millionaires yet either, they're not yet like an iconic figure in the mould of Elvis or The Beatles. It will be good pay for a nights work (multiply that by the number of shows on a tour), especially to do something that you obviously enjoy doing and to be idolised by thousands. Good work if you can get it

They will be getting paid more for gigs now than previously before. As they get more popular they are able to ask for more and get a better percentage from ticket sales. Promoters know they can make money off KOL while giving them a good pay deal. Every concert/festival I've been too..the merchandise area is always killer! I always go to gigs intending not to buy anything but always find myself being so happy with the bands performance that I end up buying at least a t-shirt haha.
I've been told that album sales don't really mean much when it comes to getting paid, the record label grabs a lot. A album deal is money but the guys would have to make that album in the time limit given. Say a $5 million deal for an album to be released in 2009.

They must be getting quite a lot, because there are so many bands, who will never acheieve more than small arenas, and not many cd sales, so even the likes of these small bands must be earning quite a lot, otherwise they simply will not be able to afford to live. So Kol must earn alot.

Ive been doing some research on wikipedia and it says in the Uk alone over 362,000 copies have been sold, the average price of the album would be about £10, so i think that is like 3.6 Million. Surely no matter how small the percentage is, they get a hell of a lot of money!
