I think that's why people are probably getting upset.
It's like.. They work all the time and they tour so much.. I think they've toured North America like three or four times on the back of A-Ha Shake Heartbreak..
and do you wanna know how many times they've been to the southern hemisphere to promote this album?
0... Zero...
so it's kinda like.. Fuck they tour their asses off, and some of you extremely lucky folks have had the opportunity to see them like three or four times on the A-ha Shake touring cycle... Because they come through your area's that often.. But we get 1 opportunity to see them (and that's a festival appearance, not a headline show) and then it's rumoured that they're cancelling.. You sort of get the feeling that it's almost unfair that they're leaving us out down here, especially when you consider (as was mentioned before) that they do tour so often.
I mean I wouldn't want them to sacrifice their health and mental wellbeing or putting out a new record just to play some more shows.. But I think they should give people in this part of the world the opportunity to see them live too.
if you know where I'm coming from?

oh Yeah.
I don't want that to sound like a cranky, spoilt fan post.. Cause it's not intended that way..
I love Kings Of Leon.. I'm been a really big supporter of their's ever since I bought Holy Roller Novocaine.. And I know that if, I repeat if they do cancel their appearance at BDO, it won't be a decision made lightly.. Because I get the impression that they take touring very seriously and have a good sense of professionalism to what they do....
But again, if they do cancel, it'll be met with great dissapointment.. Like the morning they were announced on the bill, I spent like 20 minutes on the phone to my friend in Auckland talking about how rad it was gonna be to see them and like sing along to 'milk' and everything..
so ahh.. yeah..
this is a huge ramble.

didnt they do a south america gig?
Is japan in the southern hemisphere?
Are you sure they havnt done australia once before?
How certain are you that they are in control of where they tour? isnt that partly what a manager does?
I'm sure you will get your turn.

ummm..
Yeah Japan in southern hemipshere... good point.. It's 11 hours by plane though.. Maybe that's why I didn't count it.
They just did a whole bunch of shows in South America...
They have played Australia before and NZ.. That was 2004 for BDO again.. and they did a tour with the Strokes as a sideshow for that BDO in Australia as well.
as far I can remember though, there haven't been any shows in the Antipodes since then.
But what I'm referring to is the A-Ha Shake tour.. Not the YAYM touring cycle... I'm pretty certain that (as is the case with pretty much all bands on majors) that they get fuck all say in where they go on tour.. and the reason they've toured North America so much is that they're not big there, and their label wanna try and break the market there..
umm.. what was my point here.. ahhh.... oh right.. Yeah the post wasn't really directed at anyone.. It was more of a rhetoric if anything.. Just putting my thoughts down.. But if it had to be directed at anyone, it would be the band's whole camp.. Not the band as individuals. It's just, as an editorial device, it's a lot easier to say "if they cancel" as opposed to "if their tour manager and record label decide it's not worthwhile to do the BDO tour"
if you know what I'm saying?
Yeah, I'm sure we'll get to see them too buddy... I just hope that it's this BDO and that it's not snatched away when it's so close. If they don't play this, then chances are we won't see them in NZ for fucking.. GOD knows how long... Australia will get a headline tour probably, but they might not bother with NZ.. until another couple of years down the track and another BDO.
does this make any sense?

that's a bit shoddy that you've been looking forward to them playing at BDO and then them not doing it may be on the cards
it's understandable you feel that way, cause the record company have got to realise that the band can't neglect the fans they've already got,no matter what part of the world they come from even if they are trying to break the market
i hope they do play for you, they can't just verify something big and get fans excited then just cancel..that would be pish to put it nicely

I hope they play too...
so lets cross our fingers...... It's much more likely that they will play than they won't... But that little rumour has sewn the seed of doubt in my mind.. which is a little annoying.
But even if they don't play... at least I'll have a new record of theirs to listen to...
and Big Day Out will still rule.. From my point of view it's a fucking excellent line up... and it's gonna be pretty amazing... It'd just be that much better with KOL playing.. They are the jewel in the crown of the 2006 BDO line up.

Whoaaaaaaaaaa.. Big press release.. shit... This is bad for all the AFI fans... but, selfishly, it does make me feel better. Because if you go back to the orignial rumour, it said both AFI and KOL had cancelled.. So it would sort of make sense to announce both at the same time kind of thing right?
But no mention of KOL cancelling... good news... But yeah.. They'll fully need another hardcore or emo act... The clientele is going to be very homogenous at this BDO if they don't...
AFI Cancel Big Day Out Appearances
29-11-05
BIG DAY OUT organisers regret to bring you the news that Californian hardcore band AFI will no longer be journeying to Australia for the 2006 BIG DAY OUT.
The band are currently in the studio working on their new album which is running late and is now not due for completion until next year. Plans for touring have consequently been put on hold.
The BIG DAY OUT is currently considering options for a replacement, so stay tuned.

Thats an odd mix, afi with kol...
I'm not really into the hardcore/emo stuff, infact when ever i listen to that i immediatley have to turn on good music before i loose all hope in music or start to cry with a pit in my heart.

there must be some valid reason if this is true, because kings wouldn't just miss a festival for nothing, they love playing.. and festivals are the biggies, it's not like this is just one casual show, it's a festival!

Yeah..
I'm like 99% confident that they're coming now...
Firstly cause they've been booked for sideshows in Australia..
Secondly, there's a music magazine here in NZ called 'Rip It Up' running a competition to watch KOL from the side of the stage at BDO...
