ha yeh....its funny cause i am irish. i dont know anything about 'my heritage' well i know we fight alot....seriously my family is SOO fucked up! Don't get me wrong, but why do you say you're Irish? I mean, I've found a lot of Americans who say things like "I'm Italian" or whatever, and I really don't get it... cos in my opinion that your great great grandfather came from Ireland, Italy or anywhere else doesn't make you from that country. I don't mean that's your personal case cos I don't know you... But anyway, you didn't even know where Dublin is.... And you said "I know we fight a lot", don't take this as a personal attack or anything, but being your own roots you could know something else about the Irish. And how many Americans of Spanish descent think Spain is next to Mexico? My god... Yet, Americans are always seen as the most patriotic people, always with the stars and bars and "God bless America" and all that kind of stuff... So I really don't understand it. It's like me saying "I'm African", cos well, after all... it's true!

"dont take this as a personal attack" but ive never been interested in researching stuff like that. i just know what i am and thats that. and to quote Morrissey "Irish Blood English Heart This Im Made Of" He is Irish but he lives in England. get over yourselves!

If we go by blood surely we all have a little something in us dont we if you go back far enough. But because your parents were born in ireland doesnt make you irish, it makes you an american because you were born there. I really am not trying to offend you so dont take it the wrong way but to a lot of us irish it just seems that americans think of it as a novelty and say " oh im irish" because they want to come from a magical land of guiness and leprechauns. I was born in dublin and grew up in dublin and i know where dublin is. therefore i am irish.

I'm as Irish as you, but I still think she (sorry, Come Child..your name is too long!) has a right to call herself whatever she wants. Both her parents are Irish, she has Irish blood, she could have an Irish passport if she wanted (though she'd have to relinquish her American one - the U.S. is funny like that ). That is not the same as claiming Irish ancestry for the novelty factor. I have cousins who were born in the States and brought up in Canada, but they feel Irish, and wouldn't take too kindly to being told otherwise. Perhaps, as someone who has been born and bred in Ireland to (I presume) Irish parents, you don't appreciate that children of emigrants have a much more complicated take on their heritage than those of us whose parents stayed put. We have had so little experience of immigration in Ireland that we've never had to deal with that whole issue until very recently. As a country we're pretty unique in that regard. I think the mix makes life much more interesting, anyway

But how yous are making it, its like saying someone with American parents who moved to Ireland and had a kid is Irish and not American. They are a Citizen of Ireland but American. get it?
