I love how like the day it happened and the day after, it's all that was on tv and all the mags/entertainment news talked about, and now it's like it didn't even happen. |

It's so easy to slag the newest album off....But just don't listen to it for awhile.Then come back to it.Iswear you'll hear it anew and find all sorts of things you never found before.When I heard it again and listened to the old albums too I could see a progression.
There is still pain ( Caleb's outpourings I expect ,and I thank him for it)I am only now beginning to get my head round the meanings. If you write it off you have not grasped them yet.

I don't get what this point of making songs for car radios is about, they've always made great music to drive to but to purely make music to be bought by advertisers is a perverse notion and is so untrue it's laughable. There's always been too much heart and honesty used in their music to entertain the idea of ultimately selling it cheaply. From a purely objective point of view i really don't think you can call this latest album a poor effort, they've tried out new ideas that may or may not have worked as well as some would have liked but they've pushed their music to the next level or two by having the guts to approach it from a different angle, that in itself is brave - considering the places they wanna take their success- and warrants any band commendation and shows also how serious they take what they do. They havn't tried to imitate, they've always been themselves and whether you like this album, have some reservations about it or plain don't like it then i think that's pretty sad because they're quite plainly the opposite of radio-friendly music and i'm sorry that you've liked their previous music but havn't been able to follow them with this album. There's only one song on that album that to me sets out purely to please and that's Charmer, for a long time that was the only one i liked, even listening to it now it's pretty draining to listen to, i felt it was boring perhaps somewhat self-indulgent, dirgey shite basically but it's so NOT! it's uncomfortable to listen to because they can still express themselves on a fundamental raw level but they wrap it in - i don't know what they wrap it in, magic possibly - and really i think as a band they're kinda schizophrenic. Which is possibly why there are so many haters out there cause they feel duped or something. They have a very human, common man touch to their approach and that's not always going to sit easy. Anyway, just try and see the not-so-obvious when you next listen to it. i don't think they're a band you can take lightly which is why i hate/love them.
