i thought the exact same thing. they are similar. they may not have any of the same lyrics but i think the kings got an idea from the songs.
benief just listen to the songs... they have very similar lyrics.Hey Joe:Alright. I'm goin down to shoot my old lady, you know I caught her messin' 'round with another man.Joe's Head:Caught him laying with my girlfriend Now they're both dead, people can be so cold when they're deadand both songs have a friend that they talk to. KOL= Fat Friend Fred
Jimi is actually suppose to be the friend and Joe is talking to himseriously, they are two songs that sound alot alike and "happen" to have similar names? yeh.... I LOVE THE KINGS but i think they might have taken some stuff and changed it up a little.when i first heard joe's head i immediatly thought of jimi's hey joe.

Well, I wouldn't say they're stealing... I'd just take it as a nod or even a tribute. And anyway, what is rock'n'roll now but a constant recycling of previous artists' ideas? Not saying that everyone copies everyone, but I think it is impossible to not be inspired by other people's work. Could you mention one, just one, 100% original artist?

That's exactly what I mean, Brittany, you expressed it really well and with a great amount of examples, karma for you! Being a huge Oasis fan I'm used to this kind of discussions, cos there are a lot of people who say Oasis simply copy or steal from other bands. From my point of view it is not like that, not at all. Don't Look Back In Anger, for example... I take it as a beautiful homage to John Lennon, cos it starts with the Imagine melody and also cos of the line "I start a revolution from my bed". Also in D'You Know What I Mean?, the song goes "There's blood on the tracks and it must be mine, the fool on the hill and I feel fine", obvious allusions to Dylan's album and Beatles' songs. I could go on and on with Oasis examples, but the thing is they're not stealing. When they play Hey Hey My My by Neil Young or I'm The Walrus it is like them saying "we love this, we were inspired by it, so thank you!". I'd definitely take it that way if I were the composer, as a compliment, and I'd be happy my music inspires other artists. On the other hand, younger people might discover classic rock bands just cos their idols mention them as influences, and that is always a good thing. Now, an example of someone STEALING: Avril Lavigne VS The Rubinoos es.youtube.com/watch?v=tvKNL3g0m0ABy the way, that Pachelbel's Canon video... oh my god, I laughed so much when I saw that! "Punk music is a joke, it's really just baroque!" Hahahahaa! Looking for the Avril video I just found this one, which is quite interesting! es.youtube.com/watch?v=25O-bLjreaA

As far as i can remember Hey Joe isn't even Jimi's song - didn't he cover it?

yeh he did cover it. I believe it was originally by Billy Roberts back in the early 60's...but everyone remembers it by Jimi Hendrix.

The Kings are one of the most original bands of my lifetime. I think it is silly to say they are stealing or cribbing from anyone. Some of you could use a lesson in the history of Rock N Roll.

well...kol arent particularly original in the core sound of their music but the way they deliver the sound is very different particularly with Nathan's drumming which has alot of interesting breaks and constant changes.
bloody good stuff.
