I want to say it’s to me to change the world Now I want to play today kicking down the door Now I’ll be alright as long as I ain’t seen it all Now I’mma hold you tight to that night we had a ball We had a ball Here’s to the kids out there smoking in the streets They’re way too young but I’m way too old to preach They know it all but they still ain’t seen the truth Just play my song and I’ll show it all to you Either way you caught me with your lyin You caught me with your lyin You caught me with my pants down My papa’s slave had to go and fight the war He’d beat ‘em all then he took ‘em all to court My papa called and said you’d in the meet Now he’s working awful hard in his factory Either way you caught me with your lyin You caught me with your lyin You caught me with my pants down We hang even into the ocean We been running barefoot this spring We been running barefoot through this spring We hang even into the ocean (We hang even into the ocean We been running barefoot this spring We been running barefoot through this spring We hang even into the ocean) i don't think everything is 100% correct, cause some of the lyrics are bit iffy and i couldn't fully hear some of the words. but it's better than nothing!

My papa’s slave had to go and fight the war He’d beat ‘em all then he took ‘em all to court My papa called and said you’d in the meet EDIT: Now he’s working awful hard in his factory
Thats what I hear anyways...

Not if it actually means:
My papa’s (a) slaves (he) had to go and fight the war He’d beat ‘em all then he took ‘em all to court My papa called and said you’d in the meet EDIT: Now he’s working awful hard in his factory
This meaning his papa is the slave and ayway why do you automatically assume the slave is of a different race?.......
Also with the original one he could have been the leader of the factory and a "slave driver" (meaning someone who is a hard boss) and now cause of the war his workers have gone and hes sueing the government because he has lost his workers and is haveing to do the work himself......
Oh dear, its starting again, Calebs open ended lyrics...........
Love it.

I hear, "My papa called and said you’d remember me" instead of
"My papa called and said you’d in the meet"
does anyone else?
end of chorus: (edit) we been running barefoot through the street we ain't even been to the ocean

on some interview with jared (i will try to find later) he says they write their lyrics after they write the music, smoke a little pot, then watch a film... maybe its based on a movie.....

Ha yeah i know I was only saying it tongue in cheek, its obvious that it sounds racist. that wasn't directed at you... i was just answering the question that was asked - especially outside the US, people don't always consider "race" when they hear "slave" since (almost) every society throughout history has used forms of slavery/servitude- often using lower class citizens of their own race. karma to you
