College radio in America is horrible. The local university in my area (which has one of the best communications schools in the country) has 2 stations- 1 is a sellout/payola station and other is a student station. The payola station is on the FM dial, and is probably the best station in my town. (That's becasue I heard them play Morningwood and Arctic Monkeys one time. Not at all my favorite bands, but a BIG improvement over the other stations.) The other station is on the AM dial and you can only get reception on the campus. They play a lot of hip hop and metal. It was 100x better last year when they played some indie, but now it just sucks.
The same club that runs that station also gets a couple bands to play each year. A mid-sized city in the UK might get bands to play there often, but all we get is American Idol tours a couple times a year. (The Flaming Lips and Sonic Youth came here last summer- best (and only) concert of my life.)I haven't been able to see any bands though cause the concerts are always on days I have to work.
Trust me, Britain's music scene is so much better than America. Don't complain. If you want to see our charts, go to billboard.com. It might just scare you shitless.

the band have had their say on this topic... "they're [british crowds] usually drunker than most, so that makes them a little bit louder, and they have a little bit more fun. and we’re usually drunk when we play, so I think they relate to it a little bit better." source: uk.video.aol.com/video.full.adp?pmmsid=1863903i feel so sorry for you sunshowers that you have only been able to go to one gig in your life (albeit a great sounding one), i get withdrawal symptoms if i don't go to a gig a month! m.i.a. the artist i mentioned in my other post, has a song called sunshowers - you should check it out (if you haven't heard it already - or perhaps that is where you got the moniker from?). i just found billboard.com confusing! you have to many different charts, it would be better if they were combined (is that what the hot 100 is?).

That the kings will actually gain any kind of real fame??? I know they have done well in England, but rock & roll sucks everywhere else. The US would rather watch a bunch of homies who can't even speak english rapping about the same old shit over and over again. Or watch a guy talk about how cool it is to get shot and then rap about how he is a hard "gangsta". I have heard people say things like "the kings of leon will be as big as the rolling stones"...blah blah blah. My question to you is...Can the Kings REALLY become a force to be reckoned with, or will they remain a band that will forever play small venue shows (i know they opened for U2, but I have yet to hear anything about them in the press)? For the record, I am a huge KOL fan, so I am not trying to be a dick. I am merely frustrated by the SHITTINESS of the music over here in the USA. Back in the 90's rock ruled the radio, but now all we have is pure garbage dominating the airwaves. I hear it isnt much better in other European countries, most noteably Germany, who is now becoming bombarded with Rap and remains loyal to techno. The only Rock that exists in France are the ones on the ground. Is it true that England is the only country that really gives a shit? ? Or am I just frustrated by the state of musical tastes??? I don't understand it when a person would rather listen to (ANNOYING ASS) lil john, or lil kim, or lil wayne, or lil romeo, or lil bowwow (yeah, there is a lot of originality existing within the rap scene) rap about the same old shit over a beat that they didn't even write. They would rather listen to that shit than REAL music where people actually do weird things, such as: 1) Write music 2) Play instruments 3) Sing 4) Hold brains in their head AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So, do you think the Kings will change anything, or are they just another rock band with a lead singer with a bad voice? YEAh i understand you i mean ,, im mexican , and i live in NY ,but that shit about homies rapping ,its so embarrasing REALLYYYY!!! AND I DO THINK KOL ARE GOING TO BE BIG!!!REALLY BIG , THE PROBLEM IS THAT NOT MUCH PEOPLE KNOWS THEM - BUT THEY ARE GREAT AND I LOVE THEM!!

I don't think people are going to have to worry about rap much longer. I read somewhere that, compared to last year, rap had a 23% decrease in sales, while rock had an 8% decrease. (Alternative had a 9% decrease, and I think country had a 21% decrease. Nothing increased.) If trends like this continue, it won't be along much longer.
Of course, if you compare rap to rock history, rap is basically in its glam rock/heavy metal stage. A hip-hop version of Nirvana could come around soon. Based on how much rap sucks right now, a direct change in its sound could be pretty nice.
Of course the question here is, what's going to happen to rock?

i reckn in 20 years time the kings of leon will kinda be looked at like the ramones career, nto saying that they are going to make 22 albums or whateva it was... im just saying the world will appreciate them later maybe because they are ahead of they're time or something? i dont know im jst rambling. the ramones went to south america and played big socer stadiums and all that then went back to america and played tiny little clubs and no one showed up. kinda like the kings going to uk and having lots of fame then nothing in america at some shows..shit i dnno

You did so not just say that Caleb has a BAD voice!! Caleb Folowill has one of the best voices in music in my opinion! and also i completely agree about the whole everyone liking that crap with athe pre-recorded beat. it is complete utter BOLLOCKS!!!! also I think England is the only place who actually cares. But I think it's not far from change judging on alot of the people in my local area listening to the likes of "Chamillionaire" and all those crappy djs with squeaky voices. It is not good. LONG LIVE ROCK N ROLL!!! and just so you know the Kings will make it huge! maybe not as big as the rolling stones but they will be huge.
