here's an awkward painful ramble for you to read....
i have a screaming suspicion rumbling round my skull that nathan did write trani. it was the way that he tends to write in a more poetic, illusional (thinkthewordis) style. whereas caleb writes how he sees it but in a gentler very well thought out way, but he's so good at that style because he's made it look as though, yeah, he has tried but not that hard. or maybe caleb's lyric writing comes down more to pure luck and instinct, so therefore doesn't have to work that hard cause it comes to him easily. *ow that hurt my head to write let alone read hehee* whereasssss nathan on the other hand, with his lyric writing, says more what just like feels right and comes outta his mouth, you know i just think he has a feel for it and just goes with his first choice (you can tell he's a drummer) i reckonnn right that caleb likes to take his time and make sure his lyrics are right (cause he's a lil more hesitant) and nathan is more of a blagger, who like just goesss withhh theeee floowwwww and if it feels right go with it, where as i think caleb is more cautious.
HA HA HA lol i really meant what i just said, i'm just laughing at the way i said it
and is it wrong that the zz top song (ithinkit'scalled) 'hot legs' might be growing on me and i might one day actually ohdeargod like it?
i'm runing away now cause that's so painful what i just wrote haha i'll never make a very good lyricist lmao

oh but i should mention nathan's not blase with it, he's a total perfectionist, more so than caleb is. which is rather complex.

I really appreciate your psychological approach to their songwriting and I think you've got it right. well done. I think its also that Nathan is older and has a different approach, more ambiguous and less literal. Sometimes I wonder how much of an input Angelo had in the lyric writing. Some of the lyrics off A Ha seem a little more..umm, puerile. or crude. What other lyrics do you think Nathan wrote? I think maybe he wrote the lyrics to Dusty, too. That line, "I'm lookin for something I can sink in my teeth without any crying" that line is so f*ckin hot. That song may be my favorite off YYM. Or, one of them. it changes. Except, I like the outtake with Matthew on slide better than the one on the album.

yeah sKy! i totally know what you're saying about the everything. i also think he wrote joe's head. i was listening to it last night whilst stoned (hahaa i swear they are one of the best bands everrrr to listen to when stoned) and i was in one mind, then two, then back to one again over whether he wrote it or not. b/c i always thought that he had but i wanted to be sure so i listened to it with an unbiased tune to my ears and i have decided once and for all that i do believe he did because it's the line "people can be so cold when they're dead" that gives it away. it's poetic and dark. like "where thrills are cheap and love is devine" (and what the hell does that line mean. i mean it doesn't really mean one specific thing does it. i mean it's said like it means one thing, but because the line doesn't make all that much sense it means several things. like it's a contradiction for a start. and asking for a place/thing that will so engulf you and encapsulate you, like "i'm looking for something to sink in my teeth without any crying" is another contradictory, wishful thought. you just can't have those things.
i know what i mean. he also wrote wasted time & talihina sky, the imagery in that last song just couldn't be written by caleb, caleb writes amazing lyrics but with nathan's there's like this whole other level, deeper meaning to it all. i jsut like that cause it's not spelled out for you. it's like his drumming. if you can be bothered to listen that closely to his playing you get so much more. i don't give a fuck who reads this but you do. it's like, i dunno, i'm probably talking outta my arse but i believe in my arse to tell the truth hahaa that he'll never give it to you on a plate. you have to work for it, but it's so worth it when you listen to his playing and writing. cause it's so expansive and creative and it just goes wherever it wants to. and if you can follow that, then, i dunno, that's the reason why you gotta love nathan's talent!!
p.s sorry this took me so long to reply to skycity k*x

you know db I plan on cornering him on the issue. Luckily, nobody really knows about them here. I mean, some people do, but I doubt the DC show will even be sold out so I will ask him once and for all about these lyrics. I know exactly what you mean, and even though I secretly wish that Caleb were the poetic one, I don't know if he is. Nathan definetely seems to have a dark side, but maybe its all in the imagination of those of us with dark sides. And you know, with drummers it can go one of many ways. They are often just human machines, but occasionally you find one that could be doing everything else in the band but chooses not to and just hangs back instead. And being the elder, I imagine he's got something up his sleeve that the others don't. Thats a nice thought.
