So we know that they travelled around with their pastor father and that they are in a band, but when did they pick up their instruments, when did they get to play small locla venues, when DID they finally hear Led Zeppelin and Velvet Underground and how were they discovered to get a record deal!?

OK, i'm gonna try and get this right, please anyone feel free to correct me and my pea soup brain - nathan started playing drums when he was younger to accompany his mum and dad in church (i think his mum played guitar or sang) - caleb kinda joined in on guitar during this time too - matthew i'm not too sure on, he didn't travel with the rest of them - they made jared learn to play the bass not that long ago so that they could have a full band (lol) - don't know that they ever reall played small local venues that werren't churches - once their father left the priesthood (or whatever) they kinda had their eyes opened to music other than gospel and stuff and loved it, inc led zepplin, white stripes, a whole big range of stuff - i read something somewhere about them getting a record deal with RCA after they heard caleb and nathan singing an accoustic version of 'amazing grace'. again, corret me if i'm worng people! If it helps, take a look on the official kings website, they have a stockstandard bio that everyone uses, that's how i know most of this stuf.. also, the wonderful site you're on now has good interviews and stuff where you can find extra things out. Hope that all helps, and welcome to the board!

Well i think it's like that in the UK (where it sounds like you're all from) but here in the US you definitley have to discover the kings on your own, they're not getting near as much publicity

my "getting into the kings story" is pretty cool I read their article in rolling stone, then that weekend I bought their album, that weekend I saw them at 930 club and the next weekend i got their EP. It was pretty fast but since then i've only gotten to be a bigger fan

i first got into the kings in may last year, just after the first release of mollys chambers, yeah i think thats right cos mollys chambers was released again a few months later when they had got a bit bigger. then i got into them big time after meeting them on 11 july 2003. y'know i was thinking the other day if it wasnt for nathan being uber uber nice to me i dont recon i would love them so much cos caleb did have a major strop on and jared hardly looked at me.
oh my god i talk so much its like my life story will i shut up!

oh god well id love to tell you but im sure youll find it quite boring anyway...... i queued with my two stroppy teenage boy friends for about 3 hours and we were right at the front, untill some crustys who looked like they had come straight from glasto pushed infront, the bouncers were RUDE my feet hurt a lot, i think they were due out at 6.30 and they were only 14 mins late! which was good, they came out of this door we didnt expect them to and nate came out first, then matt, then caleb and jazzard i think and they posed for some photos. i screamed oh my god its nathan when he came round the corner and he giggled at me (im a twat) then they sat down i gave matt the card i had written for them and he smiled at me but didnt say anything really. i said hi to caleb and asked him if he had a good time in london that week and he ignored me and didnt even look up. i gave up when i got to jazzard and thought fuck it!, its not me whos supposed to be making the effort they are the ones promoting themselfs and he didnt say a word either. but then i got to nate HORAY he asked me how i was and stuff to my amazement, we chatted about the gig they were playing later and about the astoria and london ect. great bloke... he sets an example to his brothers. then i got to burger king and passed out and embarrased my mates by hyperventilating . thats it really

I can maybe give ya a little insight...I went to highschool with the brothers here in the states. Caleb never played guitar till after he dropped out of our school(his senior year) to pursue music. Him and nathan sang country music for a while before doing the Kings of Leon. They told Jared he had to learn to play bass if he wanted to be in the band. So he started playing like a month before they recorded the first E.P. Considering jared's limited experience...I doubt that he actually plays on the E.P. Now it could be him on the album but I wouldn't be surprised if they brought in studio guys on Holy Roller Novocaine E.P. Nathan did play drums in church...Caleb played a little bit too. And they both sang. They are MUCH better singers than they show. I don't know much about the cousin. I have never met him.

That's quite nasty that only Nathan "Still has his beard hurrah for him and he will live in a commune with Hazel one day" talked to you.
From what I've heard Matthew is truck dumb 99.9999999% of the time and maybe t'other two are just boring sods.
Telling you, if I ever meet them I'll be telling Matthew about his death at the hands of Manchester scallies with guns and telling Jared off for impregnating me with eight children WITHOUT MY SAY SO.
