can any of us truly comprehend their recent life changing events? fan base in europe is one thing, but the U.S. tour whores have made these boys men. their interviews make you think they are horny, drunken, judgemental rednecks (most of which is selectively quoted to capitalize on the strokes tour so the writer can make way for the drew segment)
they are just babies. the young ones get laid far less often than they should (ladies, make the first move please) the elders (if you can say that about 23-24 yr olds) are busy creating dear diary worthy evenings with the even older movie stars still desparate enough to fuck around. (gina gershon, get a non-"i could be your mother" life.....just an example.) why are these boys not better known? we, the fans are not doing a proper job. this is a band even our "missing zepplin"parents can love.
let's work to create more mainstream fame for these boys before growing up on the road sends them to the current courtney love camp. party gets old when it's all you have.
just look at ol julian? great band.....big boy mess. at 25.
bug those radio stations until they have to look it up and play it!!!put your cd in your purse and have the dj play it......boys, go to the car if you don't own a man-purse like nathan.
if you write hear, you have the time. or sit back, same them, and wait for the Folowhill 4 version of the Jackson 5 break-up.

I aggree with you fan. But I would go further and say that the only way the Kings would get big in the States is to sell out and become a polished boy band with no talent or integrity.
They have a gentle universal appeal. Everyone can find something in the Kings music for them, not because some producers put it there , its because thet are real! and people on't want reality as much anymore. The average American would seem to preffer the fakeness of Christina Aguilera telling them they're beautiful and makeing money out of their insecurities.
Feel free to flame me if you wish but you have to admit I have a point.

who really needs that bullshit sell-out noteriety? my point is that if bands like the strokes can sell tons of albulms..........the kings should be next. i would never wish them to cross over into sell-out status.

I'm going to be un-poular for saying this but the Strokes have been around longer and have always seemed to flirt with the corperate sell-out thing BUT make it seem like they're not . The Kings seem to have a hell of a lot more inegrity than that.

Or perhaps its for those moments when they feel like enacting scenes from the i"mportance of being Ernest" and take turns with the cherry red lipstick and high heels at shout ing "A Handbag?!??"

i think rubber band just came here to show off that they know the kings and just because we weren't all *woopdedoo* they got pissed. oh and bands *selling out* please, the point of a band getting a record contract is to SELL records, the label sign them to make MONEY. Talk all you like about art and integrity but at the end of the day whether they like it or not a band signed to a major label are a commodity and while this might sound very cynical its an inextrticable part of being sucessful and i think this only becomes a bad thing if they are manufactured and their music becomes more about style over substance. That might not have made sense but purists that ramble on naively about selling out do my head in. I think it's impossible in this day and age not to.

For a band to get big they have to become a brand this is true. Its just how much r is used to turn them from one to another. Its like in the Jet thread in the other place when there was disscusion of Jet selling out because their song was being used to advertise Apple Maccintosh. Jet is a brand, Apple's a brand. The kings of Leon are a brand produceing CD, Viynl, live appearances videos, t-shirts, websites etc. BUT they are still a band makeing music and rocking out on stage. Its a balence ting between the two. A great deal of bands today step over into being brands exclucively even before they get big. (the record companies like this as they control the brand and not the band)
I still mantain though that, as in all sections of the ecconomy there are brands and there are brands.
The charts are dominated generally by the least ethical brands and puppet artists who are not brought together by the joy of making music but by greed, who don't write their own songs, and are but confections of pro tools and the cosmetic surgeons knife.
And don't think I've not got anything to say about the whole rubberband thing I have.......
I just need a fag and a coffee before I start on that subject
