I don't think it's pervy, just because I find it way too cute to think that.

I love the part where Caleb waves to the camera with a little girl in his arms, Jared with the kite, Matt on a bike and Nathan with the sprinkler. And suspenders of course I agree with savanna, Jared in the field is cute and lovely The songs seems very different from ASH songs to me.

It's not really pervy, it's just... weird.

I don't understand why it's weird To me it seems like a friendly warm hug and as far as I am concerned hugs are a very common thing in the western world I would also like to be hugged by Jared!

I haaate to say this word again, but it's just REALLY CHEESY. To the extreme. Like, the cheesiest part of the video. It's cheese served with cheese. Sorry! I can't think of any other way to say it without people thinking I think Jared is a perv or summat!

Maybe we could change cheesy or corny with banal?

That's exactly why I think it's cheesy, because it looks contrived. Not because of the Kings, not because of the kids, not because of the environment, but because of the direction of the video. I don't have a clue of whom directed it, but the message didn't really come across, in my opinion, unless you're a KOL fan and knows their back story. I don't think it's far fetched to think that given the opportunity they would do the kind of things they're doing in the video, it's just the way those things were captured on video that seems wrong to me. I mean, the photography is beautiful, some of the moments are precious, but the edition is pretty bad; sometimes a few things look rehearsed (which I don't think they were). Those are the reasons I don't like the video. So, to me, the music is good, the video is bad. I'm disappointed with myself, actually, but I don't even like the song that much. I listened to it a lot yesterday, but today not even once. But it's not surprising, since from the 6 songs they played live so far, Radioactive is my least favorite. Maybe I just need to listen to it more. I'll do that tomorrow.

^ I agree, I think contrived is a good word for it.
While I have no doubt they had fun on set and all of that, it's just too ...perfect. And so it loses a bit of personality in that. Foibles are OK too. I do get what they're trying to do, but it just seems they've gone from one extreme (eg the RML vid) to another.
But on repeat view, I don't hate it. It makes me laugh, but not in an unkind way.

its weird watching a rock band flying kites and carrying babies on a video, IMO LOL and this is exactly why I like it. I don't understand why rockstars have to be hardcore at all times. They *are* normal people and they do have different sides to themselves. I mean, we've seen pictures of them all holding babies in real life, and Jared has a friggin' Pomeranian for Pete's sake. This is who they are and I don't think people are comfortable with them showing that because they want to them to maintain this 'rockstar' image at all times. I would personally find that, 24/7 all the time, to be boring and a bit phony. The reason why I have such an issue with the word cheesy is that to ME, something is cheesy when it's totally forced and contrived, and is trying to be cheesy for cheesy's sake. (that's 4 times in one post. kill me now.) I don't get that vibe at all in the video because it all feels pretty genuine. I will admit that maybe the open arms in the field thing was a bit much. But again, I find it way too cute to care! ...just my 2 cents. haha. i get your point but they can keep that "normal life" for themselves haha thats exactly why it is cheesy, you say that in order to be cheesy it has to be totally forced, well, in my opinion this video is totally forced, starting with the fact that it is a video and somebody MUST have come with the idea and the props. I dont believe that Caleb just started walking and suddenly he had 20 kids behind him, or that Jared was there and thought "this looks like a really nice day to fly a kite, hey look, theres a kite over there! perfect!" it would have been more natural if they have used footage similar to the Home Videos instead of this video to really show and see who they are and other side of them if that was what they were looking for

I think knowing the video was filmed in LA and not somewhere in the south (like it would be made to seem in the video) also adds to it's fakeness to me.

Peeps, it's a video. At the end, the music matters a lot more than this. Someone had an idea, they went with it. The results were so-so. So what can you do? I am sure there is timing, acting abilities and budget limitations. There are priceless moments--like the sun shining out of Caleb's butt, the kite, and Jared hugging the kids, plus the scary magician. They are amusing and entertaining moments. I dont know--what's an amazing, profound, incredible video? other than Johnny Cash's "Hurt"?
Tbh, there aint nothing weirder than the "On Call" video.

They aren't exactly known for their mind blowing videos. They're never anything special (sorry guys if you're reading this i love you!). To me their best music video isn't even a music video... it's the home video where they play Manhattan and show clips from the family reunion. That would have made a perfect video for Radioactive!

Nothin' wrong with that! Ummm....yes, i am aware of what we do on the forum. And I dont remember saying that there is something wrong with discussing the video. But whatever. But it is just a video. And i agree with Carrie--"Manhattan" which had the same exact idea was a lot more powerful, because it was real.

i think the 'home movie' approach is a genius idea !! they should have done exactly that and clipped it with them playing and singing, and it would not have been so contrived.

First of all, I haven't had a chance yet to read all the comments in this thread so apologies if I'm repeating something already said - but I was just thinking how strange it is that it's expected that rockstars maintain their coolness. I'm not going to pretend that I know the band, but they come across like southern boys who love their mama, love good food and just hanging out on their farm (apart from Jared who does come across like a hipster wannabe :-)) I think somebody threw out the idea for the video, the band liked it (but were aware of the fact that their videos are never that great) and just went along with it. It is staged, but they probably thought it didn't matter as they liked the concept for the song's sake. Either way, I love the song, I think the video is ok - I prefer it to the performance videos of Notion and SOF and the likes. I think this band does not want to be the epitome of coolness anymore, they just want to be themselves.
