Now that they are playin' the new songs on tour, what songs do y'all think the Kings will drop from their sets?
It seems from the first few gigs that Black Thumbnail has been debunked.. sadly! I'd like if they replaced the Bucket/Charmer with somethin like Ragoo or California Waiting or Arizona. What do y'all think?

If I'm correctly informed, they played Black Thumbnail tonight. Maybe with their catalogue expanding, they will rotate the songs a bit more.

Black Thumbnail was played last night, 4 new songs - Mary, Immortals, Southbound and Radioactive and the Where is my Mind cover. Quite a few songs gave way for these.

Yeah, Black Thumbnail was last in the encore. I didn't notice til I got home that they didn't play Red Morning Light!

Yeah, kinda saddened with the setlist. No SNSL, Cold Desert. I had it set in my mind they were coming out for a 2nd encore.

I would love them to drop Use Somebody. Did they play it at Hyde Park?

They played USE during the encore, last song.

Since they have more songs now you would think at least of them would say "Hey, instead of keeping the set to an hour and ten minutes (22-24) songs. Why don't we play two hours worth or at least an hour & a half." Guys, you are no longer opening up for other bands, you can play a healthy size set list. No more dropping songs or have a revolving door of songs. Here is a good idea, I am thinking outside the box, NO SETLIST. Many bands do it now days and it's the element of surprise that gets the fans intrigued. But I am sure that the people on this message board will see roughly the same set list posted gig after gig. Way to keep it fun KoL.

I am all for that ^^^ no set lists and varying things. Seems like one of the problems is that Caleb cant remember the lyrics. He's said it on a number of occasions. And Matt doesnt like change much. So unfortunately, we are stuck with set lists. They pretty much mostly play singles, at this point. Particularly from their past albums.

Nik, back in 2007 I saw them in Dallas Houston TX on a Saturday, Sunday we drove to Dallas to see them the next nite. SAME SET just jumbled a little. It stinks when you have seen them 8 times and it is mostly the same. I wonder if they ever think when they are recording "Man, this might be someones favorite song (like Ragoo)" they should play it live more often.

I totally dont disagree with you. Last year, i heard the entire ObTN way too many times!
Hope with the upcoming album, they'll mix things up a bit, but i am still expecting the same Molly's Chambers, The Bucket, and all that stuff. Seems like they already dropped Wasted Time, after playing it a couple of times @ Bonnaroo and Hyde Park.

My two cents: I think the guys think when they make that set list that they're playing "the hits" for everyone. They're basically playing whatever they've made a video for/released as a single because they don't want to disapoint people coming to see them for the first time.
What they don't realize is that people coming to see them for the first time dont have a clue what the "hits" are aside from Sex on Fire and Use Somebody so as long as they hear those they aren't out anything. Those of us who have been fans for a while consider "the hits" to be other songs... Trani, Arizona, Ragoo, True Love Way, ect...
I'm really sick of hearing The Bucket, Molly's, and Knocked Up live even though they're amazing songs. Even Taper and Four Kicks...

Yep, that's what i am saying--they play the "hits"/singles. But their back catalog is so much more interesting. Yeah, if they played Dusty last night, most people wouldnt know if it's from the current, upcoming and first album. So in reality, they can go wild and play whatever! This set list from last night leaves much to be desired. Crawl Taper Jean Girl My Party Be Somebody Immortals Molly's Chambers Fans Milk Closer Mary Four Kicks The Bucket Radioactive Sex On Fire Notion On Call Southbound Trani ~ Encore ~ Knocked Up Manhattan Use Somebody Black Thumbnail

Hmm maybe once they release the album they'll change up the set more. Because they'll have 12(ish) songs on the album and a good portion of those will be played live. So some songs that are in the set now will be pushed out, and HOPEFULLY they will switch it up and add in songs they haven't played in a while.

They will just take the songs that are pushed out of the line-up for the new songs and rotate the ex-ed out songs for the other "old songs." Never pumping in stuff like Trunk or Day Old Blues, Joe's Head. It sucks.

I have to agree with everyone here, if I had to pick one thing I disliked about KoL, it'd be this. Not to be harsh, but it does seem lazy. People make huge effort to go to many shows, sure the one off goers won't know the difference but they seem like they're not trying to cater to that crowd so much anymore. And they KNOW what songs are peoples favourites! Wicker Chair and Talihina Sky are like these myths in my head now The totally ironic thing is that, for my first kol concert, I didn't know what the setlist normally was, and I was ECSTATIC that they played KOTR (didn't even know it was a single, proving Austin's point), but they also played Arizona, Camaro and Holy Roller Novocaine. If I could go back in time to that point...! Seriously though, how hard can it be? They've taken Where Is My Mind out already (although I guess if they'd kept it in then everyone would expect it and it'd just be like any other song). Looking at setlists (or lack of) for other bands has made me realise that it doesn't really matter what you play (within reason). If you miss out someone's favourite song one night then that's fine, you're never going to please everyone. But we all like to be pleasantly surprised, and it shouldn't just be for "special occasion" shows like roo or Hyde Park. And just for the record... If they played Happy Alone I'd fly all the way to TN and give them a hug. Seriously. (It'd be really sweaty cause it takes a looong time to fly there, but damn it'd be an affectionate hug) Whoa that turned out long . Take it as a sign of passion!

I agree about the setlist problem. I only saw them live twice at a festival last year and in Hyde Park this year and the setlists were basically identical except for the new songs being thrown in at the HP gig. There's lots of KOL songs I'm dying to hear live (Arizona, Wicker Chair, True Love Way, Revelry, Head To Toe, Where Nobody Knows, Beneath The Surface) and I fear it won't ever happen with most of them. It's a shame. With KOL not having had many successful singles I feel like they'd have the privilege to just play random songs from all albums, but they seem to prefer to just play the same old year after year

I am going to rant, sorry if I offend people, I dont mean to, but reading you all complaining about the setlists, I cant help thinking how selfish this is, you are lucky to see them live, do you know that many of their fans cant afford to go, me included (at least for now) but trust me, If I could see them live, the last thing I would want is to act disapointed because they played this song instead of that song. I love knocked up, four kicks and all the rest, and even though they play those song every time, and I have heard those songs live enough times on various videos, I would still be extatic to be able to physically be in the venue to hear them and sing along. As for not changing the setlist, what do you expect ? Some bands like to change the setlist almost every nights, but many other bands dont, and their fans dont necessarily get pissy about it. If your tired about the same setlits, then dont bother seeing them 5 times a year, because you all know they're not going to change their setlists, or very little. I guess in some fans eyes KOL will never win, damned if they do, damned if they dont. They started playing older songs again, like trani, waisted time, yet there are still people complaining, damn it
Rant over, sorry again, I needed to get that off my chest

Sorry, but with all due respect Helene, i will rant too.
This whole "OMG, you are so lucky to even see them!" argument really doesnt work for me. Hundreds of us spend thousands of dollars (or whatever your currency is) every year to follow them around the world. I know plenty of people who save like crazy, and all of their extra money go specifically to KOL and all the traveling that's involved, tickets and the like. I dont think that we are better or worse than those who dont see them live--for whatever reason--but we ARE the paying audience. We are the ones who go out there and spend a shitload of money on this band. Watching YouTube vids is great, but you have a choice what to watch and it's free for you. So it's absurd to me to hear people say--OMG, you are so lucky! I am not "lucky". I dont go out sometimes, I'll forgo seeing a movie or buying a drink, in order to go to their concerts. I'll wake up early the day the tickets go on sale. I'll keep a calendar. I WORK for this. No one is gifting me with tickets or travel arrangements. But KOL is important to me, and i choose to do this. Consequently, why, as a paying customer, can I not voice my dissatisfaction with something? Yes, 90% of a KOL concert is awesome, but there are some negatives. And this part happens to be a negative. They pander to their "new fans" with SOF and Use. Why cant an older fan, who's been with them for years and years laments the fact that AMAZING songs from their entire catalog have not been performed in years! Why even argue that TLW or Happy Alone or Red Morning light are BETTER songs than SOF? Or that On Call could be dropped, and exchanged for something that hasnt been heard in ages? Why not perform Dusty or Holy Roller Novocaine? Particularly right now, when they are not actually even supporting a new album, and are simply touring?
Yeah, they'll pull out an occasional Wasted Time or Red Morning light, but they'll drop it even faster. Thank g-d for the new songs, and everyone who's heard them is raving about them, but they are few and far in between an often times mediocre set list.
Rant over

^ I agree with you, Nik. I think big fans who go out to see KOL kind of have a right to be upset with setlists. and it's not just KOL, I feel this way about other bands, too. It gets kind of old and frustrating -whether you've seen them or not (and I've only seen them once!)- to know they rarely switch up their set lists. Those who go to their gigs should be thankful they get to, but there's nothing wrong with wanting to see different songs. On the other hand, I wish they'd play True Love Way, McFearless, or even Soft... and Arizona. that would be a dream for me to see that.
