I'm glad there have been so replies to this thread, I'm gonna try and check out as many of these albums as possible. And I just remembered that I forgot to put Bombay Bicycle Club - I Had the Blues But I Shook Them Loose in my list.

I agree with White Lies, Arctic Monkeys and Muse. I'm not sure if this counts, but I really really love the 'Dark Was The Night' compilation CD done for AIDS relief... Bon Iver, My Morning Jacket, Cat Power, Beirut, The New Pornographers and of course The National (and others) on it pretty much wins in my books I'm also going to be the first to say that Only By The Night makes it onto my list. Just. But I can't believe I'm putting that in really small font on a KoL forum. *Hides in corner* ((cringing at own stupidity of getting the years wrong))

^Jessica, you don't have to be embarrassed! I would have put OBTN on my list too but I didn't think it would count since it was released in 08. Alot of my favorite cd's I got this year were older releases...that's why I didn't list them.

I just discovered this thread and decided I HAD to enforce the sheer brilliance of Mumford & Sons' "Sigh No More". I knew about the band for a while, and managed to hear them play a couple of songs at one of Laura Marling's London shows earlier this year. When I bought this album, I was hoping for something that would give me a sense of comfort, having recently bought some albums and been disappointed. You cannot imagine the smile on my face after it finished I highly recommend "Sigh No More" to everyone! xxx

White Lies' 'To Lose My Life' seems to be featuring highly. I must admit, for me, it was thee album of the year. Top of the list. I love MTV Two's album of the year countdown, which they have round Christmas/New Year time and I will eat my hat of To Lose My Life isn't number one. Quite simply a stunning debut.

Muse- The Resistance Wolfmother- New Moon Paolo Nutini- Sunny Side Up Devendra Banhart- What Will We Be Pearl Jam- Backspacer The Low Anthem- Oh My God, Charlie Darwin (originally released last year but re-released this year and i have to mention it becuase it's like magical, fairytale music that has me entranced. You gotta see them live to get the full atmosphere and feeling of the music. It's extremely beautiful.)
