i'm currently in the market for biographies about marlon brando and roy orbison. i'm drawn to sad, tragic lives for some reason. You'd love Mark E Everret's story then (the lead singer and songwriter for Eels) - poor bastard's had more tragedy then you've had hot meals.

The Borders near my house is closing and all books today were one euro! There was nearly nothing left when i went in but i found two books that look good. I got White Lightning(which i was meaning to buy anyway!) and Winkie-which sounds really weird and funny. It's about a teddy bear who realises he can move and escapes from his house and then gets caught by the military and is accused of all this terrorist stuff. Sounds really crazy and gets brilliant reviews from everyone. Right now though i'm on the fifth book in the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice which mainly revolve around Lestat de Lioncourt- the greedy, life loving(most of the time!), tormented and brilliant vampire who does what he wants and heeds no rules. Her writing is so addictive and beautiful and detailed.

It's great! I've just got to the bit where Atticus is defending the guy and Boo is turning out not to be this horrendous monster they imagined him as. I feel so sorry for him! Pretty nasty how his brother filled in the hole in the tree

I have never seen this thread!! I LOVE IT!
I Love J.D. Salinger's books.
Lately, I've been reading Dean Koontz books. They are really fast- pace, page turning books.
Robert Ludlum's Bourne Identity series are SERIOUSLY better than the movies.

I love anything by Martina Cole (although I'm yet to read her latest book). She writes about gangs/gangsters in London. Her books are fictional but are very loosely based on real life events/people. Pretty gritty stuff. Or, for some trashy, light hearted, sex drugs and rock and roll, Jackie Collins.

My favourite author is Michael Ondaatje. Coming Through Slaughter, In the Skin of a Lion, and Divisadero are really good. He is probably best known for The English Patient, but I like the books I mentioned much better. I will have to look through this thread and do some reading. I haven't been doing it very often.

I haven't heard about any of those books, I don't know why but I only read classics. Harry Potter and Neil Gaiman would be exceptions. I would really recommend "Neverwhere" by Neil Gaiman.

Oh oh oh, I've remembered one great book - Sleepers by Lorenzo Carcaterra. It was much much more interesting than the film.

Anything by John Banville, Ian McEwan or Colm Toibin. My 3 favourite authors.
And then or course for a bit of fantasy/magic it has to be the adventures of Lestat de Lioncourt and his acquaintences in Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles and Harry Potter.
Also adore Into the Wild, To Kill A Mockingbird, A Million Little Pieces and Memoirs of a Geisha.

Memoirs of a Geisha is a great book indeed.
If you guys like that kinds of storylines then I can recomend
The Last Concubine & The Courtesan and the Samurai by Lesley Downer.
Fantastic books.
