I think it kind of depends what age you are. I went for the day to see the strokes when I was 14 and I thought it was the best thing EVER! I camped the last 2 years and yeah it just seems to be all really young people. and a lot of people just going 'for the craic'. and wants wrong with dance acts?? the prodigy were brilliant last year

Velvet10; if you've never been to a festival before than Oxegen is fine as a start. Good points: - It gets the best line-ups in Ireland (due to the promoters having a monopoly over Irish music, which pisses me off) - It's close to Dublin so good if you are coming from abroad - The buses have been sorted out so it's easy to get to/from - The audiences are great, so bands love the reception they get (that's true of most Irish gigs though) Bad things:- the location itself is ugly and boring. Most festivals are set in fields in a field/country house estate so when you're not watching bands you can chill out on the grass and wander around. Oxegen is set in a car race track. So it's just a concrete circle really - ugly, ugly, ugly. - The crowd - (I'm old, so take this with a pinch of salt ) Oxegen gets a very young crowd. It's kind of like a rites-of-passage thing for school kids, especially the 17 & 18 year olds who have just done their Leaving Cert the month before. So the vast majority of the crowd is made up of extremely drunk teenagers. I've been to a lot of festivals in different countries (all the big fests in the UK, several times) and have never seen anything like the messy drunkenness at Oxegen. But if you're a 17 or 18 year old, that ain't so bad! - The rampant commercialism: Oxegen is run by MCD, the biggest music promoter in Ireland, famous for putting profit over people. Everything is over-priced and people are kinda treated like cattle. - the campsites - well, put all those drunken teenagers in a campsite..whaddya get? Whitewickerchair; if you go to Electric Picnic you still get the mud, the alcohol and the shouting and singalongs outside your tent. But at least you're in the mud in a beautiful location, the alcohol is cheaper, and you're less likely to get robbed or puked on in your tent!

^^thanks bornagirl, that's really good info - i am old too (chronologically) so thanks for giving me the picture, i think maybe staying with my friend's family (if it comes off!) could be a good choice here but still meet up with HA'ers so i can get the best of both worlds!! just to show how old i really am my eldest daughter is 17 in July... i hope that doesn't put people off talking to me , i haven't got a problem with teenagers getting drunk, just not sure that a campsite full of them would be very sanitary!! haha but then i guess festivals just aren't anyway!! if i go prepared and ready to have a good time i think it will be fine

I don't have to do the public camping thing.Maybe if I did I would be less fond of the experience. I didn't think there was that there were more teenagers than any other age group but I guess the teenagers who do show are very troublesome and slightley mental.

I live a few hours away. I'll actually be staying at a private campsite for staff away from the main camp areas. If you're looking to stay somewhere the town is ten minutes away from the festival where there are a few bed and breakfasts. Buses go to and from the festival into town every ten or fifteen minutes so that would be a nice option

I've never been to Oxegen, and wasn't really thinking of going, as at the not so tender age of 28 I think I'd feel past it haha :-) BUT saying that, for KOL I would do it, so can anybody please let me know if Ticketmaster is the best place to look out for the ticket release, or keep an eye on the Oxegen website instead?? Cheers buddies...

ticketmaster is fine. The organisers haven't announced when the tickets are on sale but they it's soon. From what I gather Kings of Leon are the only act confirmed as yet. www.oxegen.ie/2008/node/25

if you dont fancy stayiing in any of the red or blue campsites, and prefer a peaceful night sleep, they do offer a green campsite that has little teepees and pod pads. bit more expensive, but a lot more comfortable. www.oxegen.ie/2008/node/106

I forgot those. They have little beds in them too. Alot of celebrities stay in that site. I saw Neil Hannon walking around in there last year aswell as that annoying fella who won 'I'm a celebrity..' a few years back

It's definitely an option to stay in Dublin and travel to Oxegen each day on the Oxegen buses. They leave from the city centre. It takes 1-2 hours, depending on traffic. I live in Dublin, so I've never had to endure the campsite (I camp at other festivals, just not there!). Last year I just went for the day to see the Kings, and it was really easy and hassle-free. When the Kings finished I got back to Dublin on the bus in exactly 50 mins, it was amazing! Kolstruck, yep, Ticketmaster.ie is your best bet.

Oooh this is all really exciting!! I forgot about the green campsite -they had something similar at the electric picnic (not to compare, but still...) and if I'd had the cash at the time, that would definitely had been the way to go.... saying that, staying in Dublin might be an option as well as it's not too far and the buses seem reliable enough... Must defo look into this. Hope The Killers will confirm soon, then will defo go!! (providing there will be tickets left when I get back from my hols 1.3........) thanks all... this is great news!xx

I've gone the last two years but have never camped. Me and my cousin got the bus (from Dublin) up and back each day and had an absolutely brilliant time both years! We'd get back at like 3 each night, get to have shower and a proper dinner then head back in the morining! It's the only way to do it as far as I'm concerned! Will probably jst go for the day the Kings play this year tho unless the rest of line-up turns out to be amazing!
