i think i've been a member here for about 4 years now and i agree with others who've said that their interest in KOL has waned. i think this happens with a lot of bands though. don't get me wrong, i still enjoy their music but i'm not a big "fan" like i was when i joined. i guess people grow up and move on. i was about 18 when i got into KOL and i'm 25 next month. your life changes a lot in those years and i have to say mine has too.
i still like to check in here from time to time though. its good to catch up with people. i think the best times were 2007/2008. i remember crying with laughter at some of the stuff that got discussed here! its sad it doesn't really happen anymore.

My interest in the band hasn't changed, as I wasn't a teeny-bopper taping posters of the Followills all over my bedroom to begin with. I think their music has improved with the past 2 albums while many europeans seem to think it's gotten worse. It's actually kind of interesting to look through threads about what people in the USA think are the bands best songs compared to what people in England or other countries think. For example, I think the song Milk absolutely sucks and could care less if I ever heard it again, while some here may choose that as their favorite KOL song. Notion and Camaro are also great tunes, but get crucified here for some reason.
Come Around Sundown has some great songs on it, but a few that just don't do anything for me. I would say Pony Up, Pyro, Back Down South, and Mi Amigo are the strongest, with The End, Mary, Radioactive, Mo Money and Pickup Truck not far behind. I don't really like The Face, The Immortals, Beach Side, and Birthday very much.
Anyway, I removed my account here once already because of all the pointless threads on kid shit that kept popping up, and might have to do it again. I never cared about who the band was dating, what they were wearing, and what they Twittered about anyway. I posted here once in probably the past year, and it looks like I haven't missed a thing. Don't think I'll miss this website in the future either. Good day. Cheers.

I fell like a couple of people are being unnecessarily presumptive about the people who are on this site these days. Not all of us are teenagers, and so what if some of them are? I count some of those teenagers among my friends. They're fun and sweet and passionate about the music just like anyone else, so it really doesn't matter one iota to me whether they're 13 or 53.
As for the lack of musical discussions, fair point, but I feel at this point most of the people left have already had those conversations several times over, have nothing left to say on the matter and therefore don't feel the need to dredge up old threads.
Sadly, that means there's no life here, but a big part of that is down to very few new members to get those discussions back in everyone's consciousness. And there aren't likely to BE many new members when some of the ones who are here make it sound like new members, especially teens, are in some way inferior to the "old" fans.
“Being a fan isn’t about being there from the beginning, it’s about being there ‘til the end.”
I'm loath to quote a member of All Time Low as I detest them passionately, but it's true.

I surely didn't mean ALL the teenagers frequenting here were like I described earlier, whether it was back then or now. I even hung out at MSG with a few of them and had a great time. There have always been a few that were just a little over the top about certain movies, bands, music, etc. I once said Fall Out Boy sucked on here and this teen really laid into me over it. How does she like them now? Ha ha. There's always a few bad apples that spoil the bunch. I've seen KOL 4 times live, so in a way the thrill has died down, but I still haven't seen a band that's come out in the past 7-8 years that I'd say was better than KOL. Too many one hit wonders with no longevity out there now. Nobody will be listening to Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber 5 years from now, for example. Anyway, there's still some cool people on here so I'll probably pop in from time to time. Cheers.

I think their music has improved with the past 2 albums while many europeans seem to think it's gotten worse. It's actually kind of interesting to look through threads about what people in the USA think are the bands best songs compared to what people in England or other countries think. I think the reason for that is because when they first came out they were proper raw American country rock and it was something unique and new for us over here. But now they have changed their sound and its no longer unique. If you take Caleb's vocals out on the last 2 albums, it could be any generic band where as if you did it with the first 3, you would still recognise it as them. HA is like school. You start and you are a newbie and then you move up the ranks a little and older members leave. Then you yourself become a more senior member with new people starting and the cycle continues until you "graduate" and leave. Then you make a comeback sometimes for that class reunion.

^ If only people knew who you are.. I don't know about HA (or other forums) being like school. I've been on other forums for 6 or 7 years, together with other people, where people remain enthousiastic about the band and the music. In the past two years I've found KOL fans quite fickle though. Maybe it's because some of them are younger, but sometimes only small things have to happen for 'fans' to totally desert the band. Like, cancelling the St. Louis gig cos of the pigeon shit and calling the band divas, or just because the Radioactive video was too Center Parcs for their liking. And lately I've been hearing people going off them because they're nearly all married. Seriously, what kind of reasons are those to abandon a band? And to come back to one of Clara's original points: I think one of the reasons why updates are hardly ever posted here anymore is because of replies going "Yea, I already saw that on *insert other site.*" It's a bit like Nik pointed out earlier; why keep posting here when there's never even a 'thank you' anymore. When we still had karma (evil as it sometimes was, with the random smiting), you didn't always have to hear/see 'thank you' because your karma amount had gone up. I'm afraid the group-feel (between forum members) has gone out of the window sometime last year or so..

I remember how much fun this place was a few years ago. I could spend hours on this site and I met some wonderful people on here. But now I only come here once in a while and find this place to be a bit dead. Maybe it'll change again someday.. I don't know. And I also very much agree with Dave: I think alot of people stopped coming on here because the albums have gotten progressively shit. All of this is how I feel. Anne. I miss you too much. HA big sis

You could share music by the band such as b-sides, get info about them and talk about concerts, share guitar tab and pictures, etc. It was a lot of fun. That's what I miss the most, all the bootlegs etc. It still happens though just not at the level it used to

I am still pretty new to HA, but not to the Kings. I have to admit, I'm more of a "commenter on other's postings", and maybe that's part of why the forum is kind of dead. More people need to post content? I'm not sure.
And seriously. I don't want ANYONE to think this is meant in any backhanded or mean spirited way (because I've come across nothing but nice people)---> One of the reasons I don't post much content is because I'm afraid of posting something that's already been posted lol! Or that I'll post it in the wrong thread haha. I think maybe this might discourage new posters from feeling free to post stuff.
I know I've made several "mistakes" here, like quoting pictures on the same page, posting in the wrong thread, posting repetitive threads etc.

I don't want to discourage people with 'stern' moderating and I certainly try to be nice when I tell people they did something 'wrong' (unless it's someone who always posts repeats in the wrong forum, then I have less patience ). Experience has taught me that a streamlined forum is more pleasant to visit and you can actually find stuff back when you're looking for something. I think it's a shame proboards don't have a merge-function; I'd prefer to merge topics than to lock & delete.
